Sams Rusty 56 Kombi Ute

On this day 7 years ago I took Rusty out for rego for the first time in over 40 years. I then surprised Sammy Schmidt when I collected him from school.

Well today 7 years on after all the years riding shot gun.. Sam got the keys and slapped on his L plates for the first time and hit the streets.

We cruised and enjoyed the sunshine, the smile he wore was from ear to ear.

From an 8 year old dragging the bus from a out ack paddock, working his little butt off to pay and build his dream bus, today was well earnt and deserved

Now my turn to rode shotgun and enjoy the memories beside him on the passenger side.

Now the big adventure tomorrow hitting the road in pitch black cruising to Sydney. Not a bad learning curve to tackle. You've got this Sam.

Big day for The Schmidt Family on Saturday we attended a new event here in the Hunter Valley at a lovely Vineyard...

Lots of Kombis and a few Beetles attended despite the wet week we had had.

I'm proud of both Sammy and Issy getting their utes ready through the week.

Rusty sporting a fresh coat of Inox making him look fresh and ready for a busy winter coming up.

Delta got her factory hoops back on and I must say loving the look. This was Delta's first VW event since completion so the girls were very happy.

Delta of cause also celebrated her 67th Birthday the past few days... a very special Birthday present is on its way...

The day turned out a glorious day and kids were happy chatting away about their projects with public..

The icing on the cake at the end of the day was the award ceremony.....

6 Years ago on this day I took a 8yr boy to the outback travelling 4000ks to bring home a Rusty old Kombi that sat in a paddock for 40 years.

As we drove off the property who would have known what would have become an amazing story that keeps on giving.

Hundreds of hours building Rusty, Thousands of miles travelling creating memories that will last a life time.. Plus meeting some famous fans along the way...

Sammy Schmidt I'm a proud Dad and proud of what you have achieved and the skills and maturity you have learnt along the way.

Thanks to all the fans, followers and family that helped build this dream.

Well this is the ultimate bucket list car for so many in VW Scene ... probably one of the rarest combinations a Dual Cab Pickup... I know its high on our list... but sadly Ash the current owner needs to move some assets...

So think about adding this to your shed and be the coolest kid in the town...

Wow 2017 little Sammy Schmidt was very quite and shy hasn't he grown since then can't believe its 5 years on.. rego is coming up and we have some other exciting news to share in the next few weeks.

Proud of my boy Sammy

Yesterday was his 4th showing of Rusty at Berry BLAST from the PAST VW show

In 2017 we towed Rusty down to put on show ready for his rustoration with the Haus of Klaus

Then 2018 we collected Rusty on trailer from there and kind of drove into show ground to show him off

Then 2019 his first show under his own steam from home 4 hours away... this year we also showcased the Klubs mascot Klaus our baby german shepherd.

Then covid gave us a year off but we returned in 2021 over the weekend for another great event. Sammy and Klaus along with Rusty put on a show.. these boys will be touring for years to come. We'll done Sammy

2 years since we headed off for Berry.... Dad and I snuck off late last night and pulled up at Kiama for a beachside stealth camp...

Klaus Dad and I had a nice Beach start to the day Breakfast in Kiama and then over to Haus of Klaus to some work on Delta for Issy..

Looking forward to arriving at Berry tonight for the VW show tomorrow

Big weekend for Schmidts

Down to Haus of Klaus to see Uncle Klaus and do some work on Issy's Delta

Then a quick visit to Indian Automotive new digs and see the family 😘

That seen us on the road 4.30am to 11pm so some big hours

Then we snuck up to Dubs on the Lake in Hunter Valley in Issy's Beetle with The Dokta
