Chevyites, lets start a conversation about public ownership of assets like banks, power generation, poles and wires or even ship building or holden cars. Heres mine, lets here yours. Please no argument or s**tty comments towards other peoples views or opinions. Lets just here some opinion.
Ian Says.
I'm hearing a lot of BS about the government wanting to solve our energy crisis.
Q. What position do you think we would be in if the government's held on to public assets like CBA. Government owned power generation or at least poles and wires etc. The list goes on to other industries. Steel manufacture, ship building refineries etc.
In my uneducated but experienced view. It's time to take public ownership of some of these things back.
Set a benchmark for commercial interests to be compared to and compete with.
We have gas. That is a hot issue too. Gas has become so expensive when supplied by the energy companies that it is now making my s**t paper more expensive. (F$@% ME)
IDEA.
Build federally owned mini power stations around the coast in strategic locations, publicly owned, fueled by publicly owned gas and then build publicly owned infrastructure required to harvest the gas and fuel those generators to supply base load power fueled by publicly owned gas.
Make the other suppliers/generators compete for the over base supply thus hopefully creating competition for this business.
Let them do that with wind solar and batteries or whatever type of green energy they can cook up.
I'd rather throw money from public coffers at that idea even if it run at a zero profit basis to create employment across a range of industries while trying to bring down energy prices to consumers that would be part owners.
ITS OUR GAS.
Throw out subsidies to end users or to prop up failing suppliers.
eg GMH.
The money we threw at that could have owned the business, or atleast a big bit of it. That could have been saved in to public ownership and all gov departments could have been driving Holden's and aussie built fords instead of Toyota's and kias.
Call me simple but I'd rather lose money through an idea like that than throw cash at an ageing and failing Steel mill in SA owned by foreign interests so it can be sold to another foreign interest. Then 100 miles away a French company builds patrol boats using Chinese imported steel.
BTW. Hope you are all well.
Lets here your open opinions about any public issue.
Sorry for the spray. Might have had 1 glass of port too many.
GO.
