Our Equimillion sponsored horse, Gus, competed at the Barellan Show over the weekend. Below is a report from Debbie Hone on Gus and Archie's efforts.

We did Barellan Show yesterday for the first time in many, many years. This was always one of my favourite shows when I was a kid and we had a fantastic day out there this time round too. Lots of first time achievements for everyone.

Piper rode Gus for the first time in his Hunter classes. She showed him all day in every class because the boys classes were clashing and she did an amazing job with him. He’s not always easy to handle out and about and she did such a good job keeping him settled.
Archie picked up the Welsh double for the first time getting the wide sash in both led and ridden, he’s just such a little trooper for a horse who is still very green.
And we had our first go at Fashions On The Field.

Awesome recognition for our Racing Manager and hard-working volunteer, Michael Bailey, who's currently laid up in hospital after an illness. We hope this brings a smile to your face 👇

A Wagga football club volunteer has been recognised for his dedication after cooking more than 80,000 sausages and 25,000 steaks for three generations of Mangoplah Cookardinia United Eastlakes FNC players over 21 years.

Michael Bailey has been named one of Australia’s local BBQ legends by Bunnings Warehouse as part of its nationwide Legend of the Tongs search, which recognises the volunteers who keep grassroots footy clubs running, one snag at a time.

While Narrandera does rely on visiting trainers to fill our fields, our local boys Anthony Craig and Shane Bloomfield, have more than held their own in 2026.

Anthony has won races at both the LW Peacock and TC Lee meetings, combining with apprentice Ella Bent on both occasions.

The pair enjoyed success with Carry On Lizzy in the 1600m Class One Plate on June 13, before teaming up again to win with Reds City in the 1000m Benchmark 50 Handicap on August 15.

Shane also tasted success on the LW Peacock program, combining with Brendan Ward as Prince Of Love prevailed in the 1400m Maiden Handicap on June 13.

We’re lucky to have two trainers based in Narrandera, and we recommend anyone looking to get involved in racing to get in touch with Anthony or Shane.

The Narrandera Race Club would like to wish Phil Miller a happy retirement as he returns to his hometown of West Wyalong.

A former Club President and dedicated committee volunteer, Phil will be sorely missed. His hard work and contribution to the club over many years have been greatly appreciated, and we look forward to welcoming him back on race days in the future.

From everyone on the committee, we wish Phil and his wife, Cheryl, all the very best for this next chapter.

An Albury quinella for Shane Bloomfield 🥇🥈

The locally bred and owned Riverbend Gold (Cory Parish) was a good winner in the 1600m Maiden Plate while second was Oaklands Orchid (Dale Cole).
