π Congratulations, Don Rowlands OAM - more than three decades caring for the Simpson Desert.
After 30+ years as the ranger in charge of Munga-Thirri (Simpson Desert) National Park near Birdsville, Don Rowlands is hanging up his ranger uniform.
A Wangkangurru Yarluyandi Elder, Don has spent decades caring for Country, protecting the landscape, sharing his knowledge and culture, and helping generations of travellers better understand this extraordinary part of Australia.
For those of us who love exploring Australiaβs remote places, people like Don play an incredibly important role in keeping these landscapes protected, understood and respected.
From all of us at Hema Maps, congratulations Don on an extraordinary contribution to Munga-Thirri, the Birdsville community and Australian exploration. π§‘
A remarkable legacy and plenty more desert tracks still to walk.
