Head Job On this NM (4G64) V6 Pajero, culprit was found to be a small split in one of the heater hoses which caused a gradual loss of coolant/overheating resulting in the heads to warp/lift and head gaskets to go. Upon further inspection heads were badly warped & twisted and going to be a costly repair to have them straightened.
We sourced some Reconditioned heads for a fraction of the cost, New Head Gaskets and Head Bolts, all new Gaskets and Seals; All the Heater Hoses have been replaced with new ones for good measure, so this problem won't happen again.
While we were at it we put new Plugs and Leads in since it is apart as it saves doing them later down the track and having to pull the Intake again. Also a good opportunity for a New Timing Belt, Idler, Tensioner & Water pump considering it would have been due in the next 30,000km anyway.
Not only have we replaced and addressed any area's of potential failure but we went one step further and installed an Engine Gaurd which not only gives an accurate Digital Temp readout but will also Sound an Alarm if an over Temperature condition occurs meaning you have plenty of time to pull over and save your engine from damage; unlike the factory check engine light which by the time it comes on, its already too late and damage is done. Another benefit of the Engine Gaurd is that they are Australian Made. Hopefully shouldn't have any issues for a very long while, making for a very reliable and future proof Pajero should have many years left in it.
