High kilometres don’t automatically mean a worn out motorcycle.

Regular servicing, proper diagnostics and fixing the little problems before they become expensive ones can keep a bike on the road for a very long time.

This K1300S has clocked up 170,152 km and it’s still earning its keep.

Your front suspension is responsible for keeping the tyre in contact with the road, controlling the bike under braking and generally preventing you from becoming part of the scenery.

Bunnings irrigation supplies were not part of the original suspension design. 😂

A bit of everything through the workshop lately. 🏍️🔧

From modern bikes packed with electronics, to older BMWs that were built when troubleshooting involved a multimeter, some mechanical knowledge and considerably fewer computers.

BMW, Honda, Husqvarna, old, new, sports, touring and everything in between.

Different bikes. Different problems. Same workshop.

And apparently we have a thing for BMWs… but that probably wasn't a secret. 😂

Apparently toddlers have busy boards to keep their hands and minds occupied…

Turns out motorcycle mechanics have them too. 😂

Toddlers get the easy colourful ones.

We get throttle body/carb synchronisation, fuel injector testing, vacuum gauges, fuel pressure testing and enough hoses and wires to keep us entertained for hours.

Same idea.

Just a slightly more expensive busy board. 🏍️🔧

A couple of jobs through the workshop this week.

🔧 Fitted a range of accessories to a new BMW R 1300 GS, ready for its next adventure.

⚙️ Replaced a heavily worn front sprocket before it could take out the chain.

🧹 Gave the workshop a proper clean and reset for another busy week.

🍔 A motorcycle scissor lift doubles as a pretty good BBQ stand too. 😄🏍️

A couple of jobs through the workshop this week.

🔧 Upgraded front suspension for a DR650 with YSS springs

⚙️ Complete engine and gearbox rebuild on a 2007 KTM 640 adventure

This customer's going to be pretty excited to get back out riding. 💪🏍️

Jobs sometimes take a little longer, but they're worth doing properly.

Another interstate BMW Airhead engine in the workshop.

✔️ Tear-down and assessment complete.
✔️ Gearbox rebuild underway.
✔️ Vapour blasting complete.
✔️ Cylinder heads machined.

🎨 Next stop: paint.

Vapour blasting removes carbon, grime, oxidation and staining from cylinder heads, engine covers, carburettor bodies and other parts. It reaches cooling fins, combustion chambers and tight areas that are painful to clean by hand.

💀 Perished dirt-bike air filter
Old foam can break apart, let dirt through and get sucked into the engine.

🤢 Old brake fluid
Brake fluid absorbs moisture, lowers braking performance and can corrode master cylinders and calipers.

Old-school carbies still need proper balancing.
