1974 HJ Holden Premier – With a Touch of Class!

“10 great reasons for choosing new Holden Premier.”

Back in 1974, Holden was proudly promoting the luxury and comfort of its new HJ Premier, highlighting features that were considered quite impressive at the time.

From its woodgrain dashboard and full-foam reclining bucket seats with vinyl upholstery to power-assisted front disc brakes, improved suspension and even an exterior mirror adjustable from inside the car, the Premier was all about travelling in comfort and style.

And how good are those original interiors? The vinyl seats, generous armrests and classic 1970s colour combinations certainly had plenty of character!

Looking back through these original Holden brochures is a reminder of just how much automotive technology and luxury have changed over the years.

1989 – Holden's New 5.0 Litre Fuel Injected V8!

In 1989, Holden brought its legendary 5.0-litre V8 into a new era with the introduction of electronic fuel injection.

Producing 165kW and 385Nm, the new V8 featured multi-point fuel injection, revised cylinder heads and improved engine management, delivering a significant step forward in performance and driveability.

Introduced with the VN Commodore, this Australian-built V8 would go on to power some of Holden's most memorable Commodores, Statesmans and HSV models throughout the 1990s.

And who could forget that distinctive intake manifold and the unmistakable sound of a Holden 5.0-litre.

Take a trip back to 1991 with this classic Holden television commercial promoting the final run of the VN Commodore.

With the VN nearing the end of production, Holden was offering the Commodore Executive from just $22,750!

The VN had made quite an impression since its introduction in 1988, bringing a larger body, fresh styling and a new generation of Holden V6 and V8 performance to Australian roads.

1974 LH Torana SL/R 5000 – Pure Aussie Muscle!

When Holden introduced the LH Torana SL/R 5000 in 1974, it brought serious V8 performance to the four-door Torana range.

Powered by Holden's 5.0-litre (308ci) V8 producing 240 horsepower, the SL/R 5000 featured a four-speed manual gearbox, sports suspension, distinctive black striping and unmistakable SL/R styling.

And how good is this original Holden brochure? From the sports bucket seats and distinctive wheel covers to the detailed illustrations of the V8 engine and running gear, Holden certainly knew how to sell performance in the '70s!

The LH SL/R 5000 would also provide the foundation for one of Holden's most legendary performance cars — the L34.

1988 VL Commodore Series 200 – Celebrating Australia's Bicentenary!

In 1988, Holden released the limited-edition VL Commodore Series 200 to commemorate 200 years of European settlement in Australia.

With just 600 produced, the Series 200 was a distinctive addition to the VL Commodore range.

Finished in exclusive two-tone ch*****ne gold paintwork, it featured luxury appointments including Calais-style interior trim, air conditioning, power windows, central locking and power steering.

And take a look at that interior! Those plush seats and matching trim certainly bring back memories of 1980s Holden luxury.

Nearly 40 years later, these limited-edition VLs are a rare sight on Australian roads.

HZ Holden GTS – Classic Aussie Muscle!

Introduced in 1977, the HZ GTS carried on Holden's performance sedan tradition, combining bold styling, V8 power and a distinctly Australian character.

With its aggressive front spoiler, sporty detailing and unmistakable GTS badging, the HZ certainly had plenty of road presence.

And who could forget those interiors? The tartan cloth inserts, sports steering wheel and classic analogue gauges are pure 1970s Holden!

The HZ would also mark the end of the GTS era.

VQ Caprice – Luxury, Holden Style!

When Holden introduced the VQ Statesman and Caprice in 1990, Australian luxury motoring entered a new era.

The flagship Caprice offered a distinctive chrome grille, bonnet ornament, elegant interior appointments and an impressive array of comfort features.

Take a closer look at that dashboard! Steering wheel-mounted controls, electronic climate control and plenty of woodgrain trim — Holden was certainly aiming for a premium experience.

The VQ Caprice brought back the long-wheelbase Holden luxury sedan after the WB Statesman and Caprice era ended in 1984.

With its unmistakable styling, Holden V8 and Peter Brock's HDT influence, the VK SS remains one of the most recognisable performance Commodores of the 1980s.

Looking back at this advertisement, it's incredible to think you could buy a brand-new V8 Commodore SS for around $20,000!
