HSV VS GTS-R — 1996

Released in 1996, the HSV VS GTS-R was certainly not an HSV designed to blend in.

Finished in the unmistakable XU3 Yellah, the GTS-R combined aggressive HSV styling with 5.0-litre Holden V8 power and became one of the most distinctive performance Holdens of the 1990s.

For buyers wanting something even more special, HSV also offered the famous optional engine blueprinting.

And the attitude didn't stop with the exterior. Inside, the GTS-R featured those unforgettable yellow seat inserts and matching door trim, along with carbon-look detailing — a cabin every bit as bold as the car itself.

Nearly 30 years later, the VS GTS-R remains instantly recognisable and has become one of the most collectible HSVs of its era.

The VH Commodore arrived in 1981 with sharper styling and a fresh new look for Holden’s increasingly popular Commodore range.

With its distinctive new front end, updated interior and a range of six-cylinder and V8 engines, the VH continued to build on the formula established by the VB and VC before it.

This classic Holden commercial takes us straight back to the early ’80s — when the Commodore was still a relatively new name on Australian roads.

This original Holden brochure features Brock alongside the HQ GTS 2-door and 4-door, showcasing the bold styling, stripes, sports wheels and unmistakable attitude of Holden's performance range in the 1970s.

Long before Brock's name became inseparable from some of Australia's most famous performance Holdens, here he was helping Holden promote the GTS to a generation of Australian enthusiasts.

“Still waters run deep.”

The HSV Senator 300 looked every bit the understated luxury sedan — but underneath was something considerably more serious.

Packing 300kW of V8 power, a close-ratio 6-speed manual, premium brakes and 18-inch Shadow Chrome alloys, the Senator 300 combined serious HSV performance with the luxury expected of the Senator nameplate.

Inside, HSV gave it Shale leather with Pewter highlights, 8-way power front seats, dark woodgrain trim and plenty of technology for the era.

And it was rare from day one.

According to this original HSV brochure, just 30 Senator 300s were to be built.

**1985 Holden VK Vacationer – Limited Edition**

A little slice of everyday Holden history.

The **VK Commodore Vacationer** was one of Holden’s limited-edition packages of the mid-’80s, offering buyers a little extra equipment and value in a family Commodore.

It might not have had the performance credentials of an SS or HDT Commodore, but cars like the Vacationer were the Holdens Australians actually **drove to work, loaded up for holidays and had sitting in the family driveway**.

And that's exactly what makes these old commercials so good to watch today.

**“A Super Sporty Heart Starter.”**

The **Holden HQ SS V8** — a colourful slice of early ’70s Australian muscle.

Introduced as a limited-offer model, the SS combined the four-door HQ sedan body with Holden’s **253ci V8**, 4-speed floor-shift manual, sports suspension, sports steering wheel, rally wheels and plenty of distinctive styling.

And then there were the colours...

Add the blacked-out grille, vented front guards, special striping and houndstooth-trimmed interior and you had an HQ that certainly wasn't trying to blend in.

The **VH Commodore SS** arrived in 1982 and helped bring some serious sporting attitude back to Holden's Commodore range.

With its distinctive blacked-out detailing, sports wheels, SS badging and V8 power available under the bonnet, the VH SS quickly became one of the standout performance Holdens of the early ’80s.

And you've got to love the advertising...

**“Chariot of Fire”** — complete with smoke, dramatic lighting and an SS sitting centre stage. It doesn't get much more 1980s than this.

Today the VH SS has become a highly sought-after piece of Holden history, particularly as the foundation for some of the legendary HDT Commodores that followed.

The **VS Statesman Series II** represented Holden luxury in the late ’90s — long-wheelbase comfort, distinctive styling and plenty of Australian character.

The Series II also brought an exciting new option to the range — the **supercharged 3.8-litre V6**, joining the naturally aspirated **Ecotec V6** and Holden’s legendary **5.0-litre V8**.

It gave Statesman buyers another take on effortless performance, while retaining the comfort, space and refinement that made these cars such accomplished Australian highway cruisers.

**New 1986 Holden Calais.**

When the **VL Calais** arrived in 1986, it brought a fresh new look to the luxury end of Holden's range.

But forget the exterior for a moment — **just look at that interior.**

Red steering wheel. Red dash. Red console. Red trim. Holden certainly wasn't afraid of colour in the '80s!

The Calais combined distinctive styling with plenty of luxury and technology for the era, including **electronic cruise control, power windows, premium audio and a comprehensive instrument panel**.

40 years later, the **VL Calais** has become one of the most desirable Holdens of its era, and brochures like this are a great reminder of just how much character these cars had when they were new.
