🔧 WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO LATELY? 🚐

It’s been another busy few weeks at NiCS Mechanical, travelling around North Brisbane and Moreton Bay keeping our customers on the road.

Here’s just a snapshot of some of the jobs we’ve been working on lately 👇

📍 Burpengary - Hyundai i30 N Line
Check engine light on and vehicle going into limp mode. Diagnosed a faulty throttle body, replaced it and got the vehicle back to running as it should.

📍 Morayfield - Mitsubishi Triton
Diagnosed a driveline vibration and engine misfire. Replaced a worn uni joint, spark plugs and leads, along with a leaking valve cover gasket.

📍 Geebung - Boat Trailer
Brakes not operating correctly. Replaced brake pads, rotors and brake cable, then adjusted and tested the system - all working correctly and ready to hit the road again.

📍 Woodford - Ford Ranger
Roadside 45,000 km logbook service - servicing made easy without needing to organise a trip to the workshop.

📍 Caboolture - Holden Colorado
Coolant leak traced to a degraded coolant T-piece, along with replacement of the viscous fan hub.

📍 Caboolture South - Ford Fiesta
No-start fault requiring replacement of the fuel pump module.

📍 Morayfield - Holden Cruze
Cooling system repair with replacement of a leaking water outlet.

📍 Caboolture - Toyota Prado
Front brake service and replacement of leaking valve cover gasket.

📍 Gaythorne - BMW X5
Air suspension leaking and vehicle dropping down - replaced the leaking rear air suspension airbags and restored correct operation.

🚗 The Importance of Regular Oil Changes 🚗

These photos are from a vehicle I inspected recently.

The first photo shows an oil filter that is badly clogged with sludge and contamination. Its job is to catch dirt and debris before it gets circulated through the engine.

The second photo shows a Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid blocked with the same contamination. This part relies on clean oil to work properly and helps control the engine's timing.

Unfortunately, by the time symptoms such as rough running, fault codes or stalling occur, internal engine contamination can already be significant. In many cases, replacing individual components does not address the underlying issue.

This can lead to:
🔧 Poor performance
🔧 Engine warning lights and fault codes
🔧 Rough running and stalling concerns
🔧 Expensive component failures
🔧 Severe engine damage

Regular oil changes and servicing is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to protect your engine and avoid costly and significant repairs down the track.

FYI for Caravan & Trailer Owners

During a recent caravan mechanical service, we found that the new tyres fitted were not correctly rated for the caravan.

The tyres fitted were rated to 900 kg, however this caravan requires tyres rated to 1,320 kg. While the tyres were new, they were not suitable for the load and could have led to serious issues if left unchecked.
Luckily the customer could return the new tyres and have the appropriate ones fitted before their trip.

This is a good reminder that it’s not just about tread depth - load rating matters, especially when towing.

Before heading off on your next trip, it’s worth having your caravan or trailer serviced and inspected to ensure:

Tyres are correctly load-rated

Bearings and brakes are safe

Lights and suspension are operating correctly

I’ll add a few photos below to show exactly what we found.
