It was certainly a week for the golden girls 😃

First was the immaculate nova.
It came in for a torque converter & flexplate change. The customer wanted a slightly lower stall speed, going from 4000 to 3500 to give it better street manners while still having a good launch.

Next came the absolute gem of a EK wagon.
The owner came to see me because after sitting for a while, the brakes had decided to leave the chat. After checking it over we found the front wheel cylinders to be the culprit but having had a front end swap from a later model complicated things a bit in regards to sourcing parts. Eventually though, we found the parts & got it running, driving & most importantly, stopping again.

The saga, part II. 🎭

After cleaning out the transmission filter & straining the fluid the gearbox had another failure after 51km. We knew this was a possibility & intended to replace the filter & fluid soon anyway, just not quite that soon.

So the trans filter & fluid were replaced & I decided to take it for an extended test drive to make sure it wasn't going to come back in another 50km or so. Then all of a sudden after about 30km it starts making a whirring noise in the engine. Still had gears, just absolutely no power.

Needless to say this was a much less than ideal situation between the customer & myself so after a long conversation we decided to remove the turbo. Keep in mind this is around 4 hours work & we couldn't be sure if it was the issue until it was removed & inspected.

Sure enough as you can see in the pic one of the impeller fins had left the chat. The bearing was also very worn & it's hard to say which one caused the other or which was actually the primary fault, possibly a combination of them together, who knows? I did find out during this job a common fault with these is the map sensor filter cracking & leaking which you can see in the other pic, this has also been rectified now.

To sum up, a new turbo was fitted & the car has now been running well for a few days & if it continues to behave itself then it'll be allowed to go with the family to the beach over the Christmas break. 😊

That's not going anywhere. 😉

Today we had a bit of a tricky one which turned out to be quite simple in the end.

This prado was driving on the highway & when attempting to accelerate it lost all drive. After turning off & back on it would drive a bit further then fail again. It was scanned for codes & came up with lots of transmission solenoid codes as well as a few other random ones. This led us to think it may have been an electrical issue either with the solenoids, wiring or ecu.

After much research the customer & ourselves decided to drain the fluid & remove the pan & filter to visually inspect things before going down the very expensive road of a replacement transmission. Turns out it was simply a blocked pickup filter caused by the fiber filter element collapsing. After cleaning it all out & reassembling everything it had gears again!

Needless to say the customer is very happy with the result as opposed to having to replace the transmission. 😁

Today we had the pleasure of working on this beautiful FPV GT. 😍

➡️ This car was suffering from the dreaded Ford centre bearing issue which affects many of these cars as well as a partially split front rubber coupling. Now there is no more banging & clunking on take off & no vibration while driving.

To say the owner is pleased is an understatement! ✨️

I feel a shift in the force... 🫳⚡️

This week we replaced the ratchet shifter in a 72 nova.

The old one was starting to wear causing it to not always select gears properly. The customer chose to change the style to a pistol grip. 👌

Now it's selecting gears as it should & ready for some much spirited driving! 😉

What's in the bushes 🌳🌳🌳

Pretty basic job here, just wanted to point out why these bushes split. You can see in the picture how far the thread on the link pin protrudes past the nuts. This has squashed the bushes & caused some of them to split.

Now fitted correctly with new bushes these will last much longer.

It's BIG SAUCE! 😃

We recently supplied & fitted a new belt drive & bracket kit to this stunning nova.

The old setup had a v-belt power steering & gilmer alternator system with mismatched & poorly fabricated brackets which for the most part worked but weren't ideal. Eventually it would have prematurely worn the gilmer belt & the voltage was quite low at idle.

Now with the new kit it not only does the rest of the car justice by looking much better, it's also much more functional. The power steering adjustment is much smother & the alternator voltage has increased to what it should be all through the rev range.
