Some journeys stay with you long after the tracks have disappeared.
Crossing the Simpson is one of them.
Out there, the days are measured in dunes crossed, kilometres crawled and how much daylight is left. The nights are simpler again. Engines off, camp set, fire going and a few mates sitting around swapping stories about the day just gone.
For and crew, the trip was never just about reaching the other side.
It was Poeppel Corner. The endless red dunes. The slow progress. The campfire yarns. The vehicles wearing the dust. The moments where the desert went completely quiet around you.
More than a thousand dunes stood between one side and the other, but by the end, the crossing itself was only part of the story.
Somewhere along the way, the road disappears and the memories take over.
