VE Commodore kept blowing the fuel injection fuse, then it stopped blowing the fuse but wouldn’t fire on cylinders 3,4 & 6 and barely runs, did some poking around didn’t find any bad wiring anywhere so came to the conclusion it was the ECU opened it up and found it burnt.

A bit of work on a Holden Cruze, a service followed by some repairs it had a pretty big oil leak so I replaced the rocker cover gasket while I was in there I replaced the spark plugs, then I replaced the front brake pads, a new battery because the old one was dead and when the customer needed to drive the car he always had to jump start it. The oil filter though well that tells a story and not a good one, I have done a fair few services in my time and this is the second time I have come across a filter that was nearly falling apart from the struggle to pump oil through it, the oil was thick, slimy and a Turkish coffee brown colour, this tells me it’s been over at least four years that this car has been serviced and it was driven regularly until recently. Any normal filter after a year isn’t ever deformed or falling apart even after two years and I know his other car hasn’t been serviced in some years as well. So keep your car serviced don’t let it go and say next time I’ll do it you may find yourself stuck on the side of the road needing a replacement engine.

So your driving along and an oil can lights up on your dash, now most people I have spoken to think this is a low oil warning when in fact it’s a warning that your engine has no oil pressure, this can be because of a couple of reasons either there’s no oil in the engine or the oil pump has failed, so you might say to me well doesn’t that mean I just need to top it up, yes that would be correct if it’s low on oil, but when do you top it up after driving it to get oil? The answer to this question is stop the car turn the engine off and don’t turn it back on until the point a mechanic has figured out why that oil light came on, just a 500m drive down the road with that light on does more damage than you could imagine like need a new engine damage, so if that light comes on turn it off call a mechanic. This video shows the result of driving the car home metal particles in the oil filter in this case the oil pump on a bt50 failed and chewed itself up sending metal particles through the whole engine and now it needs a new engine.

Replacement of a brake switch, as cars get older sometimes switches fail, this is a very important one more than people think, when a brake switch fails not only do your brake lights not work but in some cases the ABS is switched off by the cars ECU and the stability control making it very risky to keep on driving.
