Merging on Victoriaโs roads can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be! ๐๐จ
Understanding the two different types of merging rules is the key to safe and courteous driving:
1๏ธโฃ Merging with a Dotted Line (Lane Ending): If a broken white line separates your ending lane from the next, you are changing lanes. The Rule: You must give way to any vehicle already in the lane you want to enter. Remember to indicate early, check mirrors/blind spots, and merge only when there is a safe gap! ๐๐
2๏ธโฃ Merging without Lines ("Zip Merge"): When lanes reduce and the dotted line disappears (often with "FORM ONE LANE" signage), itโs a zip merge. The Rule: The vehicle with its front bumper ahead has the right of way. Merge in turn like a zipper (left, right, left, right) and always be courteous! ๐ค๐ฃ๏ธ
Failing to give way correctly can result in fines, demerit points, or an instant test failure. Keep the golden rule in mind:
Broken Line = Changing Lanes = You Give Way ๐บ๏ธ
No Line = Zip Merge = Vehicle Ahead Goes First ๐ฅ
