Dear Embraced Family,

Embraced began with a belief in the power of art to bring people together across generations, experiences, and stages of life.

Founded to create art, connect communities, and change perceptions, Embraced worked with artists, participants, and partners to deliver intergenerational projects that celebrated life stories, challenged assumptions, and fostered genuine connection.

We are deeply proud of what has been achieved. Since our founding in 2017, 1,284 people have participated in Embraced projects across the country. We have presented seven major exhibitions and six performances, and supported the creation of 465 portraits and 60 original songs. Along the way, we partnered with hundreds of aged care facilities, schools, community centres, and retirement villages, embedding creative connection across communities and generations.

After careful reflection we would like to share that Embraced is bringing its work to an end and will be winding up in the coming months.

This feels less like an ending, and more like a moment to pause, reflect, and give thanks. The relationships formed, the works of art, and the perspectives shared through Embraced our programs will continue to live on in the people and communities involved.

We want to sincerely thank you for you for your contributions in Embraced’s journey. Your support helped bring our work to life and ensured it was delivered with care, quality, and purpose.

We hope the ideas, relationships, and artworks created through Embraced’s programs will continue to live on in the communities they reached.

There is so much joy that comes from connection. And yet, across Australia, both younger and older people don’t always have the opportunity to connect, with each other, or with their broader community.

In response to rising loneliness, persistent ageism, and the loss of everyday moments that build belonging across generations, we deliver programs that change this.

Our programs bring young and older people together to co-create portraits, write songs, and share stories and through this they build empathy, celebrate lived experience, and communities reconnect.

But we can’t do this work without support. We rely on philanthropy and grant funding to deliver every one of our programs.

Last year on our Songs For You program Eileen—a 90-year-old with a lifetime of incredible stories— connected with teens Elijah and Rory.

From sharing stories of her childhood in wartime England to recounting her days as a lighthouse keeper in Western Australia, Eileen’s rich history captivated this duo.

Eileen’s passion for choirs and bells became the heart of their creative inspiration as they went on to develop a new song honouring Eileen. "Let Your Memories Shine" was born from her stories, with a verse written by Eileen herself. It’s a song filled with bells, birds, and voices that reflect her adventurous, music-filled life.

The most beautiful moment? When the Year 12 choir joined in to record Eileen’s chorus.

It’s been an honor to witness Eileen’s bond with Elijah and Rory grow through this project. Their shared love of music and storytelling has created something very memorable. Thank you, Eileen, for letting your memories shine through and inspiring us all.

It’s a celebration of authenticity, embracing every twist and turn of life, and always staying true to who you are. A reminder that no matter your age, it’s never too late to live with joy, spirit, and a smile. 💖

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do! 18-year-old Nyamar surprised us with a stunning a ca****la rendition of the song she and fellow teen Blake co-wrote for their newfound older friend, Lyn. Inspired by Lyn’s beautiful 50-year relationship with her husband Ian, the teens poured their hearts into capturing the love, dedication, and commitment that define their story. With Blake on guitar and Nyamar's stunning voice, this track is a treat.

Did you know someone, who has found true love in a fish and chip line? Meet 82-year-old Graeme, whose rom-com-worthy meet-cute with his life-long love began right there. Inspired by this heartwarming tale, teens Duncan and Banjo created a song in Graeme's honour—complete with a chorus taking him right back there.
