𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗗 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗡 𝗡𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗢𝗪 & 𝗕𝗨𝗦𝗬 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗧𝗦

Do you find it difficult to drive safely on narrow streets with parked cars, cyclists and oncoming traffic?

Maintaining the correct road position is an essential skill for every learner driver in Melbourne. Good road positioning helps you avoid hazards, maintain safe clearance and drive with confidence.

𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗗 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗦

✅ Look ahead – Identify parked vehicles, pedestrians and approaching traffic early.

✅ Maintain safe clearance – Keep enough space from kerbs, parked cars and other road users.

✅ Adjust your speed – Slow down when driving through narrow or crowded streets.

✅ Watch for opening car doors – Be alert when passing parked vehicles.

✅ Give cyclists enough space – Allow at least 1 metre when travelling at 60 km/h or less, and 1.5 metres above 60 km/h.

✅ Never force a narrow gap – If there isn't enough room to pass safely, slow down or stop and wait.

✅ Steer smoothly – Avoid sudden movements and unnecessary steering corrections.

𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥:

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 → 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦𝗦 → 𝗦𝗟𝗢𝗪 → 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 → 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗖𝗘𝗘𝗗

Good road positioning is not about squeezing through the smallest space. It's about choosing the safest path.

At DOS Driving School, we help Melbourne learner drivers improve their road positioning, steering control, hazard awareness and driving confidence through professional driving lessons.

Are you finding it difficult to steer smoothly, turn corners or maintain the correct road position?

Good steering control is an essential skill for every learner driver in Melbourne. It helps you stay safely within your lane, negotiate bends and intersections, and build confidence behind the wheel.

𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗦

✅ Hold the steering wheel correctly – The 9 and 3 o'clock position is a useful starting point.

✅ Look ahead – Focus on where you want your vehicle to go.

✅ Steer smoothly – Avoid sudden or unnecessary steering movements.

✅ Adjust your speed before turning – Slow down appropriately before bends and intersections.

✅ Maintain correct road positioning – Keep a safe distance from kerbs, parked vehicles and other traffic.

✅ Straighten the wheel gradually – Guide the steering wheel smoothly as you complete a turn.

✅ Practise regularly – Build confidence with left and right turns, roundabouts and parking manoeuvres.

💡 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥:

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 → 𝗦𝗟𝗢𝗪 → 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 → 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗥 → 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗘𝗡

Smooth steering is not about turning the wheel quickly. It's about guiding your vehicle accurately and safely.

At DOS Driving School, we help Melbourne learner drivers improve their steering control, road positioning, hazard awareness and driving confidence through professional driving lessons.

Do you find it difficult to decide when it's safe to turn or enter a busy road?

Judging safe gaps is an essential skill for every learner driver in Melbourne. Whether you're turning left, turning right, entering traffic or approaching a roundabout, making the right decision helps you drive safely and confidently.

𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘 𝗚𝗔𝗣 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

✅ Check approaching traffic – Look carefully in all relevant directions.

✅ Judge speed and distance – A fast-moving vehicle may reach you sooner than expected.

✅ Allow time to accelerate – Make sure you can complete your turn and build speed safely.

✅ Watch for pedestrians and cyclists – Check mirrors and blind spots when necessary.

✅ Never rush under pressure – Don't accept an unsafe gap because another driver is waiting behind you.

✅ Avoid unnecessary hesitation – Learn to recognise and use safe opportunities confidently.

💡 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥:

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 → 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦𝗦 → 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗗𝗘 → 𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘 → 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘

Safe gap selection is about choosing the right opportunity, not the quickest opportunity.

At DOS Driving School, we help Melbourne learner drivers develop better observation, traffic judgement and confidence behind the wheel.
