In many ways, modern cars became technologically smarter but visually less futuristic than . Back in the 1980s, KITT’s dashboard gave drivers the feeling of sitting inside an advanced intelligent machine. The glowing panels, animated indicators, aircraft-style controls, and AI interaction created excitement and emotion that many modern cars still fail to deliver today.

Modern vehicles already contain technology far beyond what KITT had — AI systems, voice assistants, autonomous driving, digital clusters, augmented reality heads-up displays, and massive computing power. Yet most manufacturers simply place a large tablet screen in the center and call it futuristic. While practical, many modern interiors feel generic and lifeless compared to the personality of KITT’s cockpit.

A properly redesigned Knight Rider-inspired dashboard could actually improve the modern driving experience. Instead of overwhelming drivers with hidden touchscreen menus, dedicated illuminated controls and visual indicators can provide quicker access and better awareness. Aviation-inspired layouts have proven for decades that information can be displayed clearly while still looking futuristic.

KITT’s dashboard also created an emotional connection between driver and car. Today, many vehicles look nearly identical inside regardless of brand. Reintroducing futuristic interactive cockpits would bring character back into automotive design. Cars should not only transport people — they should make drivers feel excited every time they enter the vehicle.

Electric and AI-powered vehicles are the perfect opportunity to revive this concept. Since the automotive industry is already moving toward intelligent cars, futuristic dashboards inspired by Knight Rider would finally match the advanced technology hidden underneath modern vehicles. The future should feel like the future — and KITT understood that over 40 years ago.
