The entertainment world is mourning the loss of legendary voice acting icon Peter Cullen, who passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on August 26, 2026, at the age of 85. Best known globally for giving an immortal soul and authoritative warmth to Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise, as well as bringing melancholy depth to Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh and voicing the terrifying creature in Predator, Cullen's legendary career shaped the childhoods of generations through his unmatched vocal talents.

For Knight Rider fans, however, he holds a very special, villainous place in television history. Cullen brought life to K.A.R.R. (Knight Automated Roving Robot), the sinister prototype counterpart to KITT., in the iconic first-season episode "Trust Doesn't Rust". Even though K.A.R.R. only technically appeared in that single episode during Cullen's initial run (with Paul Frees voicing the character when K.A.R.R. returned later in Season 3), Cullen's chilling, ruthless vocal performance left an indelible mark. There has always been a dedicated faction of Knight Rider fans who love K.A.R.R. just as much, if not more than KITT., drawn to the dark, rogue edge that Cullen brought to the role.

Rest in peace, Peter Cullen. Your voice will echo in our hearts forever.
