Antisocial Engineering We want to help out local "disadvantaged" youth, by turning unloved things into uniquely personal items. Especially, but not limited to, Motorcycles.

It seems everywhere there are young people "falling through the gaps". Not fitting in to the normal learning paradigms in schools, being labelled as too difficult, distracted, no attention span and other categories. Some are even labelled "anti social", or is it because these young people don't want to be a product of "social engineering"? I was one of these youth, back in the 70's (nothing chang

es, eh?) until I met teacher who recognised that I needed to learn in a different way. He encouraged my "mechanical" side, helped me sign up as an apprentice mechanic in the army, I never looked back, and have never stopped learning. Often it's not the schools fault, or the parents, not the fault of the young 'uns themselves. Yeah, red tape and bureaucracy have a lot to answer, but the issue is too complex, and blame never helps anything. We are also a product of our environment. We hope to be able to help some of the locals by giving a place where they can get an alternative to the normal education. Not to replace, but to augment it and give some reason to it all. Show them that it's not hopeless, there is something they can do. Using motorcycles as the basis, AntiSocial Engineering will give the program participants some projects and tasks to get their hands dirty. Something where they can see the maths, science and general theory actually work. Something that they can see the end result, say "I did that" and gain some self respect and confidence.
