🏁 HELP TEAM MIB BUY THE WIN! 🏆😂
This weekend, Team MIB – Men In BMW is heading back out for Tropic Thunder @ Drive It NQ.
Now, apparently there’s a trophy we don’t have to be fast enough to win… 👀
💰 THE MOST DONATIONS RAISED TROPHY!
So naturally, we’ve decided we want it. 😂
More importantly, every dollar donated goes directly to Rare Cancers Australia, supporting Australians and their families affected by rare and less common cancers.
So whether it’s $5, $20, $50 or $500, you’re helping a bloody good cause… while also helping four grown men proudly claim they bought a trophy. 🏆🤣
HOW TO HELP:
✅ Select Tropic Thunder @ Drive It NQ
✅ Select Team MIB
✅ Donate whatever you can
👉

We’ll do our part by trying to keep the #525 BMW circulating for the weekend.
You guys do your part and get us to the top of the fundraising leaderboard. 😎
Race hard. Give big. Buy the win. 🏁💙❤️

🚗 Big weekend around FNQ! 🤠🏁🏃‍♀️

School holidays are wrapping up and there’s plenty happening across the region this weekend:

🤠 Mareeba Rodeo
Friday 10th & Saturday 11th at Kerribee Park, with the Downtown Parade on Friday night.

🛍️ Mareeba Markets
Saturday morning — perfect before heading out to the rodeo.

🏁 V8 Supercars — Townsville 500
Friday to Sunday, with plenty of locals making the trip south for a big weekend of racing.

🛣️ Gillies Centenary Celebration
Yungaburra is celebrating 100 years of the Gillies Range Road, with vintage vehicles, heritage displays, live entertainment, kids’ activities and plenty of Tablelands history.

🏃‍♀️ Cairns Marathon Festival
Sunday morning in Cairns — we’ll be cheering on Tod’s wife Sam and their daughter as they take part!

🎨 Cairns Indigenous Art Fair
Also happening in Cairns for anyone heading down that way.

It’s a big weekend for Hales Mechanical as well — our workshop crew and families will be spread across FNQ, with some of us heading to Townsville for the V8s. Tod’s wife Sam and their daughter take part in the Cairns Marathon Festival.

With school holiday traffic, rodeo traffic, supercars travellers, marathon crowds, grey nomads on the road, and Christmas in July season just around the corner, there’ll be plenty of people moving around FNQ.

Please travel safe:
✅ Check your tyres
✅ Check your lights
✅ Keep an eye on coolant and oil levels
✅ Allow extra travel time
✅ Be patient with caravans, tourists, families and event traffic

Enjoy the weekend, support local, and stay safe from the team at Hales Mechanical 👋

Big day at Hales Mechanical.

Today we proudly presented Albo with his Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

He hasn’t completed an oil change.
He hasn’t diagnosed a warning light.
He hasn’t bled brakes.
He hasn’t found the missing 10mm socket.
And he’s yet to answer the phone when Rose is flat out.

But somehow, he’s already negotiated 47% of the business.

Honestly, that’s the fastest apprenticeship we’ve ever seen.

Rose has already put him on the callback list, Caden’s hiding the broom, and Tod’s still trying to work out if the 47% includes GST.

Welcome aboard, Albo.
Your first job is a 200 Series starter motor.

Disclaimer: AI-generated and just a laugh. Hales Mechanical is still locally owned, locally run, and Tod is unfortunately still doing the hard jobs.

Thursday Hot Tips 💡 Don’t buy someone else’s problem.

Buying a second-hand vehicle can feel like a great deal… until hidden problems show up after the sale.

We’ve seen far too many people get caught out buying privately, only to find major issues they had no idea about — in some cases, vehicles needing complete engine replacements not long after purchase.

A car can look tidy, drive okay on a quick test drive, and still have expensive underlying faults.

That’s why it’s always worth having a reliable, trustworthy mechanic inspect the vehicle before you commit to buying it. A pre-purchase inspection can help pick up warning signs, give you a clearer picture of the vehicle’s condition, and potentially save you thousands.

Spending a little before you buy can save a lot after.

If you’re looking at purchasing a used vehicle, make sure you have it checked before committing.

🏁 This weekend Team MIB is taking on the Motor Events Boneyard Challenge in Townsville! 🏁

We’re proud to be getting behind Rare Cancers Australia through this event, and we’d love your support.

There are 2 ways to get involved:

1. Donate directly to Team MIB
You can donate through the official fundraising page for Team MIB in the Boneyard GP 26' @ Dirtilt NQ, QLD event:
https://www.motorevents.com.au/we-are-on-a-mission/

2. Pledge an amount per lap
You can also pledge an amount for every lap we complete over the weekend.
We expect to do roughly 500–600 laps across the 2 days, depending on how the weekend goes.

For example:
20c per lap = around $100–$120
50c per lap = around $250–$300
$1 per lap = around $500–$600

As a thank you from Hales Mechanical, anyone who supports the fundraiser can choose to receive the same amount as a credit on their next visit with us.*

If you’d like to support us, comment below, send us a message, or donate directly through the Team MIB fundraiser page.

Let’s see if we can turn every lap into support for a great cause 💛

*Invoice credit offered by Hales Mechanical as a thank you for your support. Credit must be used within 6 months of the donation date

🐰 HAPPY EASTER 🐰

We’ll be taking a short break and will be closed for the Easter break.

Back to normal from Tuesday the 7th of April👍

We know times are tough for a lot of people at the moment, so we hope everyone gets a chance to slow down, enjoy some family time, and reset over the long weekend.

Thanks for continuing to support a local workshop — it honestly means a lot to us and our team.

If you need us, bookings are always open online, ready for when we’re back 🔧

Stay safe on the roads & enjoy the break!

🚗 Fuel Quality – What You Need to Know

We’ve had a few customers asking about the “dirty fuel” talk going around lately.

Here’s the honest answer 👇

It’s not that fuel is suddenly bad — but there can be some variation in quality, especially with stored or emergency supply being discussed.

Modern diesel vehicles rely on very precise fuel systems, so consistency matters.

What you can do:
✔ Stick to reputable fuel stations
✔ Don’t run your tank too low
✔ Keep up with fuel filter servicing
✔ Use the right fuel treatment (not everything at once)

There’s a lot of advice online saying to “just throw additives in” — but different products do different jobs, and using the wrong ones can cause more harm than good.

At Hales Mechanical, we take a practical approach — we’ll recommend what your vehicle actually needs, not just sell you something.

We can’t control the fuel — but we can help you protect your vehicle 👍
