CHANGES TO CARD PAYMENT SURCHARGES
From 1 October 2026, businesses are no longer able to pass card processing costs on as a separate surcharge for EFTPOS, debit and credit card payments.
While the surcharge may be disappearing, unfortunately the processing fees charged to businesses are not.
Like many small businesses, we will still incur a fee every time a customer pays by card. As these costs can no longer be passed on separately at the time of payment, they will need to be factored into our pricing moving forward.
To help us keep these costs down, cash and direct bank transfer remain our preferred payment methods where possible.
We completely understand that card payment is convenient and it will, of course, continue to be available.

🚗 Where has this year gone?! 🔧

We’ve been a little quiet on Facebook lately — honestly, we’ve just been so busy that the year has completely gotten away from us!

Somehow we’re already in September, Christmas is creeping up, and the end of the year suddenly doesn’t feel that far away. 🎄😳

September is completely booked out, and October is also very heavily booked, with quite a few bigger jobs already lined up.

If you’re hoping to have your vehicle serviced, repaired or checked over before Christmas, it’s probably worth getting organised sooner rather than later.

🚗 Big weekend around FNQ! 🤠🏁🏃‍♀️

School holidays are wrapping up and there’s plenty happening across the region this weekend:

🤠 Mareeba Rodeo
Friday 10th & Saturday 11th at Kerribee Park, with the Downtown Parade on Friday night.

🛍️ Mareeba Markets
Saturday morning — perfect before heading out to the rodeo.

🏁 V8 Supercars — Townsville 500
Friday to Sunday, with plenty of locals making the trip south for a big weekend of racing.

🛣️ Gillies Centenary Celebration
Yungaburra is celebrating 100 years of the Gillies Range Road, with vintage vehicles, heritage displays, live entertainment, kids’ activities and plenty of Tablelands history.

🏃‍♀️ Cairns Marathon Festival
Sunday morning in Cairns — we’ll be cheering on Tod’s wife Sam and their daughter as they take part!

🎨 Cairns Indigenous Art Fair
Also happening in Cairns for anyone heading down that way.

It’s a big weekend for Hales Mechanical as well — our workshop crew and families will be spread across FNQ, with some of us heading to Townsville for the V8s. Tod’s wife Sam and their daughter take part in the Cairns Marathon Festival.

With school holiday traffic, rodeo traffic, supercars travellers, marathon crowds, grey nomads on the road, and Christmas in July season just around the corner, there’ll be plenty of people moving around FNQ.

Today we proudly presented Albo with his Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

He hasn’t completed an oil change.
He hasn’t diagnosed a warning light.
He hasn’t bled brakes.
He hasn’t found the missing 10mm socket.
And he’s yet to answer the phone when Rose is flat out.

But somehow, he’s already negotiated 47% of the business.

Honestly, that’s the fastest apprenticeship we’ve ever seen.

Rose has already put him on the callback list, Caden’s hiding the broom, and Tod’s still trying to work out if the 47% includes GST.
