More works along the way…
Solar panels on the roof
Battery bank in the hold
And …. A working door!
Those who know the boat well will know it’s been nearly 2 years since there’s been a door 😜

A ship’s wheel, always a story?
Originally a hand shaped wheel built by the boats designer/builder Denis, Dove will have two working helm positions with two unique hand-crafted wheels, both fabricated by our dear neighbour and friend Phil.
The main helm wheel is easily the oldest piece of Dove, fabricated from an old forged farm machinery wheel (approximately late 1800s, unknown).
Each hand turned white oak handle sits in a custom plug, which lines up with the wheel’s spokes. (Pictured here in primer with handles not fitted)

The upper helm wheel started life on a two masted ketch ‘Princess’ we salvaged from the yard in Port Adelaide Marine (Jim and James Theodore).
It (boat and wheel) was literally disintegrating, we took the centre and Phil hand made the components from redgum to make what you see (pictured awaiting final sanding, filling and finishing with Tru Oil )
Steering will be a combination of chain reduction, shaft and cable, closer than ever to being installed.

Helm taking shape (roof to be resolved) out of interest the wheel is officially the oldest piece of the boat (including my knees 😜)

It’s been a year, full of great loss and serious illness.
And, as always moments of great joy.
Our Dove continues to move slowly forward, though not yet under her own power. Smaller milestones like 2 working toilets and showers, a near complete main deck inside and a rear sponson deck taking shape.
Life on the river continues to be good for the soul, and we move ever forwards.
Peace to you all, in this time and always.
Love Lisa and Teresa 🕊💜

It’s been a while since our last post.
Just after slipping in Mid May, our youngest son Isaac died suddenly, which has knocked the wind out of us quite a bit.
So, as we’ve said, we were up on the slips in Mid May for an insurance check and some essential maintenance.
We’re pleased to report since that the new waste water system is commissioned (more exiting than you might think), and the Sky Hydrant water filter is also installed.
Other minor works like finishing the kitchen bench continue to bring our new home closer to completion!

It’s that time again.
The culmination of 9 months solid work (not done yet by any means), we’re waiting to go up on the slipway at Mannum for insurance survey, after some more work and a clean of Doves hull.
A beautiful day, Doves propulsion is not yet completed so we pushed her down using our Lister powered lifeboat, average speed 4km/hr, 5 hours from our now empty mooring to Mannum.
After this week new electrical, gas, hot and cold water plumbing and drainage should be completed, as well as some other sneaky jobs.
Weary, but satisfied as is its all coming together finally

What a month it’s been!
Finally got to bring the back part of the main cabin down, and begin the rebuild, including new sponson wet rooms.
Some days it feels like it’s hard to find traction, but forwards we move
