While we've been quiet on the socials, we are never idle in the shop.
One build we have just finished up is now in a 356 Speedster. And she's a little weapon.
Built around our normal standard of no compromise, she is now a 2.2 litres of genuine Weber fed goodness.
When she came in, it was fitted with an AMR500 Supercharger kit on what the owner had been told was a 'fully built motor'.
Unfortunately we have now seen this too many times. A second hand, bone stock bottom end (including the cam which was out of adjustment) and a lightened flywheel was the extent of the previous builders efforts. But it did have a new case at time of building... That's was its saving grace.
The little AMR had been set up with so much overdrive that it was way beyond its continuous operational limits. Unfortunately this lead to it having disintegrated and gone through the motor.
Public service announcement:
An AMR500 is designed for operation on 600cc-900cc motors, not 1600cc motors.
Que VWCL and back to the build.
We waved the wand over the case, carrying out a few of our in house mods plus the normal full flow procedure.
She's now got some displacement courtesy of a forged stroker crank from CB and matched H Beam rods.
We retained the Lightened flywheel and added a CB Billet alloy pulley before dynamic balancing the whole shooting match.
A Forged and ceramic coated piston and barrel kit was added to the mix for outright strength as this little car will be competing in the Targa Great Barrier Reef.
Cam wise we went old school on this one with the venerable W120 with matched lifters.
People who know me also know that I am extremely selective of camshafts and don't usually reach for a W series cam as they have been surpassed many times over now, but in this case, it fit the bill perfectly.
To round out the old school build a set of hand ported S**t Super D Port heads with 42×37mm valves and S**t Pro 1.25:1 rockers with HD Manton CroMoly push rods ensure that the top end will breathe and be ultra reliable for years to come.
The owner had an MSD unit installed in the car which we were able to check over and ensure full function before replacing the cap and re commisioning.
Induction is handled by dual Genuine Weber 44IDF carbs on a CB manifold and linkage kit which we match ported in house.
When tuning for lean best idle, even with big heads, big rockers and a big cam, she still purred all the way down to 450rpm.
This is why we only ever use the real deal. You can't get the knock off's to such a fine state of tune.
Rounding the package out is an 1⅝" stainless side winder exhaust system.
Many many hours went into this gorgeous piece of kit, and we can't be more proud to have our name to the build.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us through the last year and we look forward to bigger and better times to come.
As always,
Stay tuned.
Big things are on the way.
