HAPPY HUMP DAY FROM ALL THE TEAM AT YOUR OCD MECHANICS!!

Today on "Meet the Team" we meet John, 4th Year Apprentice & soon to be Qualified Mechanic, who has been with Your OCD Mechanics for approximately 4 years.

John enjoys fishing, camping & helping out his mates on weekends. We asked John some questions, here's how it went:

If your car could talk, what would it complain about most?

It wants a bath. Clear Coat has let go & any wash is making it worse, just gotta fix the paint!!

Favourite car to work on???

Any car that has not been sitting in a bog hole for the last 3 years, mud in your hair, eyes & mouth get old after a while!

Any advice for someone looking to enter the trade???

It's said all the time but common sense. Common sense & safety go a long way. Anyone can be a Good Mechanic if they are willing to apply themselves.

SIGNS YOUR TYRES NEED TO BE REPLACED

LOW TREAD DEPTH

Tread Wear Indicators - Look for small rubber blocks built into the main grooves. If the tread is flush with this indicator, the tyre is unroadworthy & must be replaced.

PHYSICAL DAMAGE

Bulges or Blisters - A bubble or blister on the sidewall means the internal structural integrity is compromised. This puts the tyre at a high risk of a sudden blowout & requires immediate replacement.

WATCH FOR UNEVEN WEAR

Tyres wearing out significantly more on the inner or outer edges often point to incorrect wheel alignment or suspension issues. Wearing down the middle of the tyres means you are driving with over inflated tyres. Patched & scalloped wear often caused by bad wheel balancing or worn Shocks.

CONSIDER THE AGE OF THE TYRE

Even if the Tread looks fine, tyres degrade over time due to UV exposure & weather. Most manufactures recommend replacing tyres that are 5 to 6 years old, & they should be replaced completely no later than 10 years from their manufacturing date.

Today on "Meet the Team", we meet Michael "Big M", Qualified Mechanic, who has been with Your OCD Mechanics for approximately 18 months.

"Big M", started his Apprenticeship in 1992, & has been in the Trade ever since, 21 years as a European Mechanic & 13 years in Australia (34 years in total).

He moved to Australia in 2013 to Melbourne & then relocated to Mackay in 2021.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT YOUR BRAKE PADS & ROTORS ARE WORN????

3 Signs that your Brake Pads & Rotors are worn:

1. WHAT YOU HEAR.

HIGH PITCH SQUEALING - This is usually the first warning sign. Built in Metal Wear Indicators start scraping against the Rotor to let you know the pad is getting dangerously thin.

HARSH GRINDING - If you hear a deep metallic growl or grinding noise, the friction metal has worn away completely, leaving the metal backing plate to scrape directly against the Rotor. THIS INDICATES SEVERE DAMAGE & REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION!

2. WHAT YOU FEEL

If you feel a Vibration in the Brake Pedal or it takes a significantly longer distance to come to a complete stop, your Braking Power is compromised.

3. WHAT YOU SEE (VISUAL INSPECTION).

THIN BRAKE PADS - Look thoroughly through your Wheel Spokes with a Torch & if the Brake Pad Material looks thinner than 3mm, they need to be replaced.

SCORED OR GROOVED ROTORS - Visually inspect the shiny silver face of the metal rotor. It should be smooth. If you notice deep grooves, rust or discoloration (like dark spots from overheating) the Rotors need replacing.

WARNING LIGHTS - Many vehicles have an Electrical Sensor that illuminates a Dashboard Warning Light when the Pad Lining Wears down to a critical level.

If your vehicle is showing signs of having worn Brake Pads & Rotors, give us a call, to have them replaced.

WHY WE DONT USE/ORDER "NO NAME PARTS" ON OUR VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS ELECTRICAL RELATED.

We recently had a customer contact us, as she was having issues with a Warning Light on the Dash & it was sending the vehicle into LIMP Mode.

Vehicle was scanned & a fault was found for the Mass Air Flow Circuit Range Performance. We carried out a Smoke Test & found a split Turbo Hose. Turbo Hose was replaced, codes cleared & road tested but Code came back. We re-smoke tested Intake & found no more leaks & tested the MAP Sensor, all good. Tested entire Intake System & found Air Mass Meter had been changed for a "NO NAME BRAND" Meter.

We then used a known good brand Air Mass Meter, cleared codes & re-tested. No Codes came back. We contacted the Customer & found they still had the original Unit in the back seat of the vehicle. We fitted the original unit & re-tested. No Codes came back.
