My daughter's terrified of driving." We've had a few Liverpool parents say almost exactly this to us lately.

Anxiety behind the wheel is more common than most people think, and it's something we specialise in. Ashraf, our senior instructor, takes nervous and first-time drivers at their own pace: quiet Liverpool streets first, a dual-control car the whole way, and no pressure to rush ahead before they're ready.

If your teen has been putting off lessons because of nerves, a calmer starting point can make a big difference.

Steering isn't what fails most learners. Observation is. 👀
Examiners are scoring your observation consistent mirror checks and head checks, not just your steering and parking. Mirror habits and head checks are consistently among the top reasons candidates lose marks on the NSW test.
What a solid habit looks like:
✅ Check before you signal, turn, or slow down (not after)
✅ Interior mirror first, then exteriors
✅ Mirror check ≠ head check, you still need that shoulder glance
✅ Make your check obvious enough that it's clearly deliberate, not just eyes flicking sideways
✅ Keep it up the whole drive, not just before manoeuvres
Not sure your observation habits are test-ready? Book a lesson focused on observation before test day. 👇

Most learners think their driving test comes down to steering, parking and following directions.
What examiners are really scoring is something quieter: are your eyes and head moving the way an independent, aware driver should?
Mirror checks and head checks make up a big part of the assessment, and missed or half-hearted checks are one of the most common reasons candidates lose marks (or fail outright).
Here's what a solid habit actually looks like:
🔹 Check mirrors before you signal, turn, change lanes, or slow down — not after
🔹 Interior mirror first, then exteriors — don't rely on side mirrors alone
🔹 A mirror check isn't a head check — motorcyclists and cyclists hide in blind spots, so a shoulder/head check is still needed
🔹 Make it visible — a small, deliberate head movement, not just eyes flicking sideways
🔹 Keep checking throughout the drive, not only right before a manoeuvre
If you're not sure whether your habits would hold up under test conditions, a lesson focused purely on observation can make a real difference before test day.

Marwan already knew how to drive. He just needed to know what NSW expects.
He booked a 2-hour lesson with Ashraf right before his practical driving test, and we met him directly at the Service NSW test centre at Orange Grove in Liverpool, which made the whole morning a lot easier for him.
In those two hours, the focus was simple: walk through exactly what the NSW driving test looks for, work through the habits that cost marks, and get him familiar with the local test routes. He went in prepared, passed his test, and converted his overseas licence to a full NSW licence.

In his own words: "he clearly explained everything I needed to know" that's the whole job.

If you're holding an overseas licence and you've got a test coming up in Liverpool, a focused session beforehand can make a real difference. We can talk through where you're at and what would help most.
