this is my machine , i totally and firmly believe this IS Wal Handley's 1927 racing engine that he used in the 1927 TT , i have a couple of spare engines 1927 OHV (available for sale) that look like this one but this racing engine is so different , i know the many claims to this have been made in the past but this IS the one , the case numbers are CTA the T being larger the other 1/2 is stamped the same the T being TT . C being 350 (A 175 B 250 ) A 1927 ok the cases have offset mounting lugs and lots of webs for increased strength (unlike the plain std cases) . The offset is to keep the motor in line to the clutch because the drive side roller is a double bearing (std is single roller ) and the timing side utilises the std d/s roller (no bronze bush here ) the crank is a larger pin with double rollers ( hand made cage ) and a longer than std alloy rod (not steel) the flywheels are larger than std and polished also stamped exp3 the cylinder is longer than std because of the longer rod . the cam is a separate lobe that screws on to the shaft (the timing figures are like a speedway bike ) . there is more to this engine than meets the eye the gearbox from memory stamped ETTA every gear is stamped TT no kick start the carburettor is an AMAC TT racing version its not what people have claimed before this is the a racing machine unlike any other Rex Acme.
Rex-Acme were formed in 1922 when the Rex Motor Manufacturing Co. and Acme Motor Co. collaborated. A range of motorcycles were offered throughout the 1920s that used both in-house-built, and propri…
