For those of you that own a Saab 95 Griffin 3.0L V6 B308E engine and undertaking replacing the thermostat
I’ve just completed this job on my Saab as the previous owner’s mechanic used a aftermarket thermostat ( housing complete unit ) that failed
Please only use ORIGINAL part obtained from UK
Reason while both Original and aftermarket do fit, when in place the long pipe that sides into the “Thermostat housing” on the Non Original is a tight fit and puts strain on the housing and over time induces leaks , also the curve on the housing is not quite correct and is hard up against the channel under the rocket cover
What’s involved
Disconnect battery
Drain coolant
Unbolt and remove top manifold ( make sure you know where the hoses go ( take a picture prior )
Once aside remove the middle manifold that has the Injectors connected too it ( plenty of room to move aside )
Once this is done remove the valley manifold (caution make sure you do not mix up hex bolt sizes)
Jack up car
Remove turbo intake and breather pipes
This will allow you to remove the last bolt holding the long interconnecting water pipe that goes from the top radiator hose to the thermostat housing
Gently !!! Move it out
Remove thermostat
See pictures
Then do reverse to put back together
I know some mechanics won’t do this, but remember to do a pressure test, once partially back together to make sure you have no air leaks , make sure your pressure is stable.
I did mine. Found other issues and fixed along the way
This is now a Gem
