Piston Friday. Lately I’ve seen a few videos of engine shops banging on about custom pistons and Domes, ect, as if they’ve just invented the wheel. Anyone that’s anything to do with Prostock, Comp or Super Stock, would know this has been standard procedure, ever since Grumpy was a boy!
With the advent of CNC machining the process has been made easier and more accurate, especially with digitising and file sharing. But the way we’ve done it for decades, with the help of pioneers in the industry, like Patterson Elite (Patterson Racing) Allan Patterson first introduced me to chamber fitted domes in the early 90s, whereas we’d pour a chamber mould, send it off to them for digitising and then shaping the “Blob Dome” semi finished piston to suit my cylinder head. We’ve been using BME 66 forgings for ages, and to this day, they’re really hard to beat! Pictured are various stages, chamber mould, Blob dome unfinished piston & fully profiled , lightened , finished product. If you look closely at the used piston, you’ll see how close we run these things to achieve maximum compression ect. BTW if there’s no witness marks on your pistons from “incidental” contact, you’ve probably got a cookie cutter boat anchor.. jus sayin

Barra- Munday , in the build. XR6T came in with a knock, upon further inspection we found the poor old girl had lifted a ring land, so it was a new set of CP slugs , hone , crank polish, boost ring gaps & bearing clearance. Hopefully slotted back in the car next week.

I do love a good “Phoenix rising from the ashes” story, however this one’s more like a River Phoenix story.
Adam was deep into an 8000rpm Burnout last year, when a flying alternator belt, took out his dry sump belt. Adam usually on the ball, was a little distracted due to burning carpet, threatening to engulf his leg.. anyway 8000rpm, Zero oil pressure for over 40seconds and yibbita yibbita, you can guess the rest💥 all I can say is thank goodness for Redline Oil, cause it could’ve been much worse.
Fast forward , after a lengthy wait for a new crank and rods, we’re just about ready to ship version 2 out to Adam, and repower the XSITED XD Falcon!

Getting ready to fire up
The Qee, in the next week or so, which means finalising a few things, like plugs. I’m going with BRISK on this deal, they read similar to a conventional plug, both fuel and spark, with the added bonus of the silver tip, which melts should combustion become uncontrolled, hopefully averting any melted pistons.
On E85 at [email protected] of boost, the engine made a comfortable 1030ish hp, totally stable,& by the looks of the plug, there’s still a bit left! The end goal is another 4-5psi and all the timing 🚀
