Well here we are enough is enough

THIS IS NOT ME
If anyone purchases a rebuilt carburettor in Launceston It has not come from me if it looks like this piece of crap.

I had a phone call from a mechanic the other day about a carby I supposedly reconditioned as it had come from Launceston & was all nice & shiny etc so he thought it was from me, complaint was the accelerator pump didn’t work.
After feeling obligated to rectify my so-called faulty workmanship (my words) I agreed to have a look at it & honour the man’s trust he had put in me in the first place.

Upon receiving the carburettor I removed a poorly, re-kitted, corroded piece of crap
(my words again)
True though, the accelerator pump didn’t work
After a quick look I could see that a ball bearing check valve had seized, it didn’t stop there though a nylon check ball in the pump nozzle was also faulty, pictured below shows ball de-laminating.
After a huge effort I was able to get the seized ball out, re-cut the seat, replace the ball & then replaced the nylon ball.
Tested the carby & pump worked as it should.

I then checked the rest of the carby out & found
float drop was wrong, fuel inlet pipe that does fall out on these carbys had been glued in with some clear epoxy & blue silicone had been used to plug missing choke linkages 🤷‍♂️
All in all it was a very poor job.

The pictures below show the adds on Facebook marketplace & the same on Gumtree as to where this carby has come from.

Be-aware that they are not mine, this is not the first carby that has come my way, it is the fourth with similar issues.

As I have retired, I know there is limited amount of people that know a lot about reconditioning carbys.
Do your homework before purchasing a carby.
25 years experience the add says well I suppose they are still learning but at whose cost ????

I will not rectify any more of these carburettors, you are on your own from now on if you purchase one.

I don’t like running people down but when it affects me & my reputation I will defend myself until the end.

Customers & Followers Please Note

Due to the high demand of my services I once again find myself in the position of unprecedented work loads & low productivity during the general work day.

I acknowledge that customers are waiting too long to get their carburettors repaired & others are being turned away due to excessive amounts of enquiry’s & drop ins.

Due to this we have made the decision once again to close our shop front & workshop from April 21/4/23 until 3/7/23 to clear the backlog.

That is to try & clear over 120+ carburettor rebuilds.
I will once again be working from home, no interruptions & phone calls.

As work is completed customers will be notified & arrangements will be made for collection or postage returns.

I ask that no new Jobs be forwarded during that time without approval as there will be no one at the workshop to receive them & some couriers will leave your parcels on the footpath.

Hopefully if this all goes to plan in July when I return to the workshop I will be able to take on a heap of new work for the last six months of the year before I retire.
Hoping you all understand the situation I find myself in.

Cheers
Ricky Hunt

Retirement is something we all work for !!

Over the last six months there have been rumours circulating about my possible retirement & closure of our business .

After a lot of deliberation my wife & I, have decided that 2023 will be the last trading year for Pro-Carb Tasmania.

It has not been an easy decision to make.

Pro-Carb Tasmania’s last trading day will be
December 22-2023

The workshop will be put up for sale, sold & retirement will become a reality.
Those that know me, know for years that I have said, when I was tired of having a shop front I would work from home.
This is now not going to happen.

Retirement will be retirement, that chapter of my life will be over.

I am giving you, my clients, friends, twelve months notice as I feel I owe you this for the ongoing support for the last 44 years in the automotive industry, in this state.

I’m not sure what the next twelve months will bring but I already have 74 jobs so far to be done next year.
31 jobs are only because these people already knew I was retiring & didn’t want anyone else to recondition their carburettors.

If this is going to be the norm this early it may mean next year may be very busy & I urge people to plan ahead on their projects if they want me to recondition their carburettors .

I promise you good people that I will continue to give you 110% on every job I do up until retirement day.

On behalf of my wife & myself we would really like to thank you all for the support over the years.

Bathurst is just a week away & it’s the last year of the so called Holden & Ford battle.

It is also Peter Brock’s 50th anniversary of his big win over the mighty V8 Falcon in his little 6 cylinder LJ Torana.

With this in mind we are heading off on a road trip to celebrate this occasion.

Pro-Carb Tasmania will be closed from 2pm Tuesday 4-10-22 & re-open Thursday 13-10-22

Any mainland clients that are attending Bathurst
that would like to catch up send me a message & we can arrange to meet up.
It would be great to put a face to a name.

Well I am back at work
It’s been a tough few weeks, ended up with coronavirus pretty bad.

I have a big backlog to clear, so I ask for patience during this time & new jobs will only be added to the end of the queue.

To all the people that sent through messages of support & offered if they could help out in anyway

THANK YOU

Over the last 12 months or so I have been working with a bunch of car enthusiasts with passion & who would not take no for an answer.

After identifying a few issues I had with their style of carburettor, I said I would no longer rebuild these carburettors.

Not taking no for an answer they addressed my issues & supplied me with 2 old carburettors to dismantle/cut up plus a engine (yes a engine😲)
to test the carburettors on.

So Pro-Carb Tasmania is now one of a couple of business in the world that is set up to recondition & fully run test
CITROEN 2CV carburettors 🤦‍♂️

Not your average Aussie muscle car I know 🙄

The enthusiasm, the hoops, the length these guys have gone to, to have their carburettors reconditioned in Australia is truely inspiring.
Previously they were sent over seas.

I have currently rebuilt 18 of these carburettors this year which makes them more popular than the old Holden Stromberg. Go figure 🤷‍♂️

For those that don’t know a Citroen 2CV engine is a 2 cylinder air cooled 402 or 620cc engine.

1940 Alpha Romeo 36D02 Triple Weber Restoration

These carburettors are extremely rare & were completely seized.
Owner painstakingly dismantled them & I was commissioned to undertake the restoration.
Some jets, all screws, accelerator pumps, chokes, throttle discs had to be made.
Throttle shafts repaired & throttle bodys bushed.
Carburettor throats had to be bored out & sleeve inserted to repair corrosion
This was the biggest & hardest job I had ever done.
Video of one carby running in comments.
