Well here we are enough is enough
THIS IS NOT ME
If anyone purchases a rebuilt carburettor in Launceston It has not come from me if it looks like this piece of crap.
I had a phone call from a mechanic the other day about a carby I supposedly reconditioned as it had come from Launceston & was all nice & shiny etc so he thought it was from me, complaint was the accelerator pump didn’t work.
After feeling obligated to rectify my so-called faulty workmanship (my words) I agreed to have a look at it & honour the man’s trust he had put in me in the first place.
Upon receiving the carburettor I removed a poorly, re-kitted, corroded piece of crap
(my words again)
True though, the accelerator pump didn’t work
After a quick look I could see that a ball bearing check valve had seized, it didn’t stop there though a nylon check ball in the pump nozzle was also faulty, pictured below shows ball de-laminating.
After a huge effort I was able to get the seized ball out, re-cut the seat, replace the ball & then replaced the nylon ball.
Tested the carby & pump worked as it should.
I then checked the rest of the carby out & found
float drop was wrong, fuel inlet pipe that does fall out on these carbys had been glued in with some clear epoxy & blue silicone had been used to plug missing choke linkages 🤷♂️
All in all it was a very poor job.
The pictures below show the adds on Facebook marketplace & the same on Gumtree as to where this carby has come from.
Be-aware that they are not mine, this is not the first carby that has come my way, it is the fourth with similar issues.
As I have retired, I know there is limited amount of people that know a lot about reconditioning carbys.
Do your homework before purchasing a carby.
25 years experience the add says well I suppose they are still learning but at whose cost ????
I will not rectify any more of these carburettors, you are on your own from now on if you purchase one.
I don’t like running people down but when it affects me & my reputation I will defend myself until the end.
