The Launceston Pacing Club extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Hall of Fame reinsman Graeme Peck, who recently passed away at the age of 94.
Graeme was one of Tasmania’s most accomplished horsemen, driving 483 winners between 1951 and 1978. He won five Tasmanian Drivers’ Premierships in 1955/56, 1966/67, 1968/69, 1969/70 and shared the 1970/71 title in a dead heat.
Among his many achievements were victories in the Tasmanian Pacing Championship with Barita in 1970 and Speedy Ben in 1973. He was also successful in feature events including the Easter Plate, Danbury Park Cup, Show Cup and Metropolitan Cup.
Respected by his peers as one of the finest drivers Tasmania produced during his era, Graeme made a significant contribution to the state’s harness racing industry and leaves behind a lasting legacy within the sport.
As a mark of respect, Sunday’s opening event has been named the Vale Graeme Peck Pace, with drivers engaged in the race to wear black armbands in honour of Graeme’s contribution to Tasmanian harness racing.
A funeral service to celebrate Graeme’s life will be held at the Bridgenorth Football Club on Friday 12 June, commencing at 2:00pm.
Vale Graeme Peck.
