🚗 Why We Don’t “Pad Slap” Brakes 🚫
You might have heard the term “pad slap” in the automotive world. It refers to replacing brake pads only, without resurfacing or replacing the brake rotors While it may seem like a quick and cheap fix, it’s not something we recommend — and here’s why.
1. Uneven Rotor Surfaces
Over time, brake rotors develop grooves, heat spots, and uneven wear. Installing new brake pads onto a worn rotor means the pads won’t make proper contact with the braking surface. This reduces braking efficiency and causes the pads to wear unevenly.
2. Reduced Braking Performance
Your braking system relies on smooth, even contact between pads and rotors. Worn rotors can increase stopping distances and reduce the overall performance of your brakes — something no driver wants when safety is on the line.
3. Noise and Vibration
Pad slapping often leads to annoying brake squeal, shuddering, or steering wheel vibration when braking. This happens because the new pads are trying to grip an irregular surface.
4. Shorter Pad Life
When new pads are installed on damaged or worn rotors, they wear down much faster. That “cheap” brake job can end up costing more in the long run when the pads need replacing again much sooner.
5. Safety First
Your brakes are the ‘most important safety system on your vehicle’. Cutting corners on brake repairs can compromise stopping ability, especially in emergency situations or wet conditions.
🔧 Our Approach:
When we service brakes, we always inspect the entire system — including pads, rotors, calipers, and hardware. If rotors are worn, warped, or below specification, we recommend replacing them so your new pads perform exactly as they should.
Doing the job properly means:
✔ Better braking performance
✔ Longer-lasting parts
✔ Less noise and vibration
✔ Greater safety on the road
If your vehicle needs a brake inspection or you’re hearing unusual noises when braking, get in touch with us. Your safety is worth doing the job right the first time.
