Congrats to the guys at Tim Blake Racing for their class win at the Australian Khanacross Championships, kitted out in their safety equipment by Racers Addiction.

Australian Khanacross Class Champions! Today was the finale round of the Australian Khanacross Championships. With limited tyres to run over the 2 days of competition and on multiple surfaces, heavy down pours last night, turned the track into a mud run this morning. We selected rally tyres to run for the weekend, where our main competition Chris Fernance was on semi slick tyres. Chris was leading us by a few seconds last night but we managed to hall him in and gain a fair gap this morning in the bog hole conditions. The track dried out this afternoon helping Chris but we had gained enough of a gap in the sloppy conditions this morning to take the class W! Thanks for the competition and most importantly, the friendship Chris. Gota give a thanks to Steve Forsberg and Michael Boaden for their advice, tips and techniques over the past week. Iv been chewing these legends ears off as I’m limited on my dirt driving experience and a few times second guessing my decision to race on the dirt.
Special mention to Daryl Elliott for taking the overall win in his Honda Jazz powered buggy (That makes 2 Honda Jazz winners) and good mates Steve Forsberg taking out 3rd in class and Chris Giddons taking the W for the same class, proving these guys still have what it takes, to take on the younger guys in their much more powerful cars. You guys aren’t washed up, has beens!
Great weekend with great people, thankyou to Westlakes Automobile Club and MG Car Club Newcastle for putting this great event on over 2 days at 2 different facilities!

The 2026 Motorsport Australia NAPA Australian Khanacross Championship is just around the corner with 65 entries currently registered for the annual one-off event to determine the National Khanacross Champion and is shaping up to be a hotly contested event. The event welcomes NAPA as the major sponsor in 2026 and will be hosted by Westlakes Automobile Club and MG Car Club Newcastle.
Will the locals shine through and take the win as Chris Granger did last time the event was in NSW in 2019? Will the 19 strong field of Subaru’s manage to keep their gearboxes intact long enough to dominate the field? Can the lightweight buggies find the traction they need to overcome the Subaru All Wheel Drive advantage? Did the competitors read the supp regs and understand the tyre restrictions and venue planning?
In hot contention for the outright win will be current and three-time National Khanacross Champion Barry Nowell making the trip from Victoria. He has been to both venues recently and understands the tests well. Local driver and WAC club president Ben Semple is the current NSW Khanacross Series champion and has great form at his local venues. But he will need to be on his game right from the start as Lewis Penfold and Scott Jackson have both beaten Ben at recent Awaba and Ringwood NSW rounds. Brad Clarke in the recently acquired H6 Subaru Forester is also very quick and one to watch, he placed 3rd in 2019 driving Ben’s car! Martin Dal-Santo is always quick at Awaba and is ready to pounce for a good result. A strong field of locals in buggies including Glynn Elliott, Darryl Elliott, Tommy Turton, and Chris Granger will be hoping for favourable track conditions to give them the traction they need to stay at the top. Both venues can be unforgiving if wet conditions arise.
The event will be held at 2 great venues in the Newcastle area. Ringwood Park Motorsport Complex operated by the MG Car Club Newcastle features both tarmac tests and grey loose dirt tests. Awabawac Park operated by Westlakes Automobile Club features all dirt tests with a high amount of clay base. Both venues are hard on tyres if the weather is hot, and with competitors restricted to 6 tyres per car for the entire event tyre management strategies are certain to become a factor in the overall competition. The event organisers have until 6pm the day before each competition day to advise competitors which venue will run on each day, thus giving them maximum flexibility to work around the Newcastle area’s unpredictable weather patterns. Awabawac Park was washed out twice in 2015 when WAC attempted to run the very first Australian Khanacross Championship event and the club will be wanting to avoid a repeat of that outcome, however the dual venue format that was pioneered by WAC in 2019 stands to provide some pretty strong defence against the weather.
Spectating will be free at both venues, and a Rallyschool voucher will be up for grabs via a raffle. Additional support from Shannons Insurance is helping provide for the many event volunteers. Spectators will need to watch the official event page to ensure they head to the right venue each day. See you there, it’s going to be great!
