Today we had Steve in with his manual turbo VL Calais to diagnose a frustrating misfire issue.

Steve had been trying to track down the problem himself but wasn’t having any luck, so it was time to bring it in and let us get to the bottom of it.

After carrying out our diagnostic checks and going through the ignition and wiring, we found the source of the problem, an issue with the crank angle sensor wiring and plug.

We got to work and:

• Wired in a new crank angle sensor plug
• Checked over the remaining wiring
• Fitted the missing crank sensor plate
• Tested everything to make sure the issue was resolved

With everything repaired and back together, the VL is now starting and running properly with no more misfire issues. 👌🏼

We did find that the engine loom is starting to show its age, with some of the wiring becoming old and brittle. The next step for Steve will be to have the engine loom rewired to future-proof the car and help prevent more electrical gremlins popping up down the track.

For now though, the problem has been found and fixed, and Steve’s manual turbo VL Calais is back on the road and ready to enjoy! 😎

Sometimes it’s not about making more power it’s about finding the problem and getting the car running the way it should.

We had Grant back in the workshop this week, this time with his WM Caprice for a service and full inspection.

After being extremely happy with the work we recently carried out on his VE SS Ute, Grant wanted to give the Caprice the same treatment and get it back up to scratch for reliable, trouble free driving.

After carrying out our inspection, we found a number of items that needed some attention, so we got to work:

• Engine mounts
• New spark plugs
• Front castor arms
• Front lower control arms
• Front crankshaft seal
• Harmonic balancer
• Radiator cap
• Air filter
• Cabin filter
• Engine oil and filter service
• Full vehicle inspection

With all the maintenance and repairs completed, the Caprice is back on the streets driving beautifully and more reliably than ever.

Grant was absolutely wrapped with the result. Both his SS Ute and Caprice are now sorted, maintained and ready for plenty of trouble free kilometres until their next services are due.

It’s always great having returning customers trust us with another one of their pride and joys. Thanks again, Grant! 😎

We had Warda Mechanical & Performance bring this crazy EVO 8 into the workshop for a custom tune. 🔥

With an extensive amount of work already carried out and a serious list of goodies, this EVO needed everything properly set up and dialled in to get the combination running and performing the way it should.

The setup includes:

• 2.3L Nitto stroker
• Turbosmart 64/66 turbo
• ID 2600cc injectors
• Surge tank with twin 460 fuel pumps
• Haltech Elite 2500 ECU
• Kelford cams
• Built 5-speed gearbox with twin-plate clutch
• Multiple boost settings
• Rolling anti-lag

Once strapped to the dyno, Frank got to work setting everything up through the Haltech 2500 and working through the different boost settings.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to push the EVO all the way to its maximum boost setting. During the session, the alternator started playing up and stopped charging properly, so rather than risk causing any issues, we called it there.

Even so, one of the boost settings produced a stout:

🔥 419awkw at 26psi 🔥

That’s some serious power going through all four wheels, and we haven’t even seen everything this combination has to offer yet!

With the setup in this car, there’s plenty more potential waiting to be unlocked. Once the alternator issue is sorted, we’ll get it back on the dyno, finish off the remaining boost settings and see what this weapon can really do.

419awkw at 26psi and unfinished… stay tuned for round two! 😎

We had Bailey back in with his LS1-powered VS Commodore skid car for a retune after making a few changes to the setup since its last visit. 🔥

With the car getting prepared for some upcoming fun, Bailey wanted the combination properly dialled in and running exactly how it should before giving it a hard time.

Onto the rollers it went and Frank got to work, fine-tuning the LS1 and getting everything sorted on pump 98.

The result?

🔥 265rwkw on 98 pump fuel 🔥

A healthy result for this LS1-powered skid machine, but more importantly, the tune is sorted and the car is running exactly how it needs to.

Bailey can now get out there, put that power to good use and have some serious fun with it! 💨🔥

This beast is officially ready for some skid action! 😎

We had Jackson in with his VE SS this week for an AllSparks custom dyno tune after making some pretty serious changes to the combination. 🔥

Jackson had recently fitted a head and cam package himself, along with a Proflow mid-rise intake manifold, and needed the new setup properly dialled in.

Previously, the SS was running a 5SC camshaft and made 292rwkw. This time around, Jackson stepped things up with a Turbo Killer camshaft, CNC ported heads and the Proflow manifold.

Onto the rollers it went, and with Frank behind the laptop working his magic on pump fuel, the new combination delivered an awesome result:

🔥 OLD SETUP — 292rwkw
🔥 NEW SETUP — 325rwkw

That’s a healthy 33rwkw gain over the previous combination, with the tune dialled in to make the most of the new setup.

The VE now has plenty more grunt to go with that tough cammed V8 sound, and we’re sure Jackson is going to have a heap of fun with it!

Another tough street combo dialled in and ready to enjoy. 💪

We had Bas in with his wild E46 BMW drift/street car, powered by a freshly built forged 6.0L LS, for a proper custom tune. 🔥

After a heap of work had been carried out on the car along with the fresh engine build, unfortunately the tune just wasn’t right. The car was running poorly, drivability wasn’t great and Bas simply couldn’t enjoy it the way it was meant to be driven.

So there was only one thing to do…

😎

We strapped the E46 onto the dyno and Frank got to work, cleaning everything up and essentially starting again with the tune. The priority was getting the drivability spot-on while safely extracting what we could from the current naturally aspirated setup.

The car came in making 297rwkw, and after Frank worked his magic:

🔥 297rwkw → 314rwkw 🔥

A solid 17rwkw gain, but the power figure only tells half the story.

The biggest transformation was in how the car actually starts, idles, responds and drives. With the tune properly sorted, it’s now a completely different animal behind the wheel.

The forged 6.0L has been built with boost in mind for the future, but even naturally aspirated it’s already putting down a stout 314rwkw.

Bas was absolutely wrapped with the transformation and can finally enjoy his E46 properly whether he’s cruising it on the street or throwing it sideways at the track! 💨

We had the Holden Trax back in the workshop, this time to sort out another engine oil leak.

After inspecting the vehicle, we found a pretty substantial leak coming from the timing cover, so it was time to get in there and fix it properly.

With everything needing to come apart, it made sense to take care of the timing components at the same time rather than putting the old gear back in.

We carried out:

• Timing cover removal and reseal
• Complete new timing set
• Thorough cleaning of the timing cover and surrounding areas
• Reassembly with new gaskets and components
• Final checks for any further oil leaks

Once everything was stripped, cleaned, fitted with the new parts and reassembled, we gave it a final check and she’s nice and dry again. 👌🏼

The Trax is back on the road, repaired properly and no more oil leaks!

Keeping on top of repairs like these before they develop into bigger problems is what it’s all about.

We had Rowan back in with his VF SS, but this time it wasn’t just for maintenance — it was time for some serious upgrades! 🔥

After servicing the car and carrying out some repairs on his previous visit, Rowan decided he wanted to completely transform the SS and make it a whole lot more fun and exciting to drive.

So we put together a killer package:

• AllSparks Premium Head & Cam Package
• VCM480 camshaft
• Higgins CNC ported heads
• LS7 lifters, lifter trays & stiffening plates
• Upgraded valve springs, retainers & locks
• Pushrods
• New oil pump & timing chain kit
• ARP cam & balancer bolts
• DOD delete
• Trunnion upgrade
• VCM OTR intake
• Pacemaker headers
• Full custom exhaust by Sharp Exhausts
• Engine sump reseal
• Fresh oil, filter, plugs & coolant
• AllSparks custom dyno tune

Once all the modifications and repairs were completed, we strapped the VF onto the rollers and let Frank get to work dialing in the new combination.

Running on 98 pump fuel, the result was a strong:

🔥 300rwkw 🔥

But the dyno number is only part of the transformation. This thing now has the grunt, throttle response, rumble and attitude that a V8 SS should have!

It’s a completely different car compared to what Rowan originally brought through our doors.

Rowan might have a little getting used to with the extra grunt now on tap, but he’s absolutely loving the sound and performance of his transformed VF.

From a service and a few repairs to a 300rwkw head & cam package — this is one seriously fun street SS! 😎

Today we had Wayne back in with his tough V8 VC Valiant for a retune.

Since its last visit, Wayne had downsized the carburettor to make the Valiant a little more fuel efficient and enjoyable for cruising, so it needed to be dialled in again to suit the new setup.

Onto the rollers it went, where Frank got to work on the 600cfm vacuum secondary carburettor, carefully adjusting the jetting and fuel mixtures to get everything running exactly as it should.

The result was a healthy 238rwhp 💪

This one wasn’t about chasing every last horsepower the goal was a crisp, responsive and well tuned combination that Wayne can comfortably jump in and cruise.

With the mixtures now spot-on and the V8 running beautifully, Wayne was absolutely wrapped with the result.

The Valiant is tuned, sorted and ready to hit the streets! 😎

We had Anthony back in with his turbo BA wagon for the final tune and this thing definitely didn’t disappoint! 🔥

Not too long ago, we had Anthony in for a run-in tune, giving him the chance to put some kilometres on the freshly built Barra and properly bed everything in before bringing it back to see what the combination could really do.

With the run in completed, it was time to strap the manual-swapped wagon back onto the rollers and let Frank work his magic.

Anthony came in hoping to crack the 400rwkw mark on pump 98…

Safe to say, we smashed that goal! 💪

🔥 452rwkw on 98 pump fuel 🔥

An awesome result from this freshly built Barra, and even better, the car is now running and driving exactly how it should with plenty of power on tap.

Anthony was absolutely pumped with the result and we don’t blame him!

452rwkw, manual, turbo Barra and all wrapped up in a BA wagon… this thing is one serious street wagon! 😎
