Yay 🎉 this is extremely good news

The government are forcing the big Fuel retails to supply independently owned fuel stations

While we do not quite know how to look just yet we believe that it would be their regular supply

So whatever we normally buy will be with they allow us to buy

This does mean that we may still run out of fuel, but it does mean that Fuel will be coming

We do not have a date that this will take affect, but it is pointing in the right direction

We want to be completely upfront with everyone in the community about what’s currently happening with fuel.

At the moment, we are experiencing ongoing shortages of diesel and unleaded — and we want to make one thing very clear:

👉 This is NOT unique to Karoonda Fuel Stop
👉 This is happening right across rural and regional Australia

This has been highlighted in a recent national article published by The Guardian, which outlines the growing fuel supply issues impacting regional communities:

What’s actually going on?

As reported by The Guardian, Australia is currently facing:
• Pressure on fuel supply chains
• Reduced and delayed deliveries
• Increased demand, particularly from agriculture
• Regional areas being hit the hardest

We are buying fuel from the same major suppliers mentioned in the article, including:
• BP
• Ampol
• Viva Energy
• Mobil

👉 So when supply is tight at their level — it flows directly down to us.



Why are we running out?

As outlined in the article by The Guardian, suppliers are currently:
• Prioritising farmers and bulk agricultural customers
• Prioritising their own branded service stations
• Prioritising large volume contracts over independent sites

That means independent sites like ours:

➡️ Receive reduced deliveries

“But other places still have fuel?”

Yes — and that’s part of the confusion, and something also reflected in the broader industry issues raised by The Guardian.

Different sites:
• Have different contracts
• Are supplied from different terminals
• Are sometimes owned or directly supplied by the fuel companies themselves
• Or are supplied under agreements where the supplier controls the fuel and the site only earns a very small margin per litre

👉 In some cases, the site you see with fuel doesn’t actually control the supply — they are simply selling it on behalf of the supplier for a very small return.



So while one site may still have fuel…

👉 Another (like ours) can be completely dry at the same time

👉 It all comes down to who controls the supply — not just who is selling it.



Why don’t we just buy from somewhere else?

Again, as highlighted in the national coverage by The Guardian, the system doesn’t work that way.

We operate under supply agreements and contracts with major fuel companies. These:
• Lock in where we purchase our fuel
• Control access to terminals and supply
• Set pricing and delivery structures

👉 This means we are not able to simply switch suppliers when shortages happen

Even if we could:
• Most suppliers are experiencing the same shortages
• Spot market fuel is extremely limited
• Available fuel is being allocated to priority customers first

➡️ So when supply tightens — we wait for our allocated deliveries
➡️ And if those don’t arrive — we run out

Well… the people of Karoonda don’t take long — the rumour mill has definitely been spinning!

Yes, it’s true.

After 6+ incredible years, we feel our time in Karoonda is starting to come to an end. Our kids are growing up and it’s time for us to focus more on family and the next chapter of life.

These past six years have been huge for us. We’ve learned more than we ever expected about the fuel industry, business and the amazing community that makes Karoonda what it is. Most importantly, we’ve met some truly wonderful people along the way.

To every single person who has filled up with fuel, used the laundromat, swapped a gas bottle, grabbed water, bought firewood or simply stopped for a chat — thank you. Your support has meant more than you know.

We’re still here for a while yet — nothing has sold yet — and everything will continue operating exactly as normal in the meantime.

For those who may be interested, we are now offering Karoonda Fuel Stop & Laundromat for sale, including both the freehold property and the operating business as a going concern.

The land and business are owned by Top Tier Investments Pty Ltd and have been operated under the same ABN for over 6 years.

Major upgrades completed in August 2024 include:
