You might hear people talk about misalignment with Mazda Rotary stationary gear oil galleries. In the photo of this RX8 6port stationary gear you can see the inlet feed oil gallery in the gear with a dark round stain off to one side. The stain is caused by the dirty oil over time. But it clearly shows the miss alignment of the oil galleries once the engine is assembled. Most engine builders will sort the problem by simply using tools like a die grinder to blend the hole so there is no chance of a restriction on a engine that might see high rpm or horse power. It can happen in all Mazda rotary engines produced over the years, front or rear stationary gear. Even if the stationary gear and engine plate combination was a factory set up, they are not all perfect.

What a great fun day at Rotary Riot 2026. As some of you know the RX7 spent most of the year in pieces with lots of changes. New turbo compressor wheel, new bigger injectors, Diff ratio change and some different tyres. With more sensors for data. We started off on 15psi and track tuned the car. All went well and were very impressed by what the data was telling us. The biggest thing that showed up in the data, was that by changing the compressor wheel to one which is more suited to the task, a massive reduction in turbo compressor outlet temperature was achieved. How much you ask ? Between 50 to 60 degrees Celsius which dropped the EGT exhaust temperature by roughly the same. Massive bonus with the EGT temperature ! What a great fun day out with like minded people and Jamboree Just around the corner. Thanks to Andrew for the clip.

Before and after Wet blasting a few housings for a 20B engine. Not only is the outside stunning, With all that grime removed the coolant can absorb the heat a lot more efficiently from the cooling jacket surfaces.

Rotary engine plate repairs, cast iron welding. A method that works very well and can then be ground and heat treated without any problems. You will need -> A gas ring burner, for heating the plate to a few hundred degree. A Tig welder, a hammer and punch. Nickle filler wire or Cast iron arc welding rods. Beat the flux off arc rods with hammer and clean up on wire buff.

As asked about the exhaust port sleeve, Is it put back in ? Sure is. You can press and modify them without much effort. You can grind them, weld them and push the shape around. It is Inconel, what type I have no idea. I use Inconel 82 filler wire and they weld up fine without cold cracking.
