Had a Mitsubishi FM come in to replace the king pins. After inspection i saw the thrust bearing on the left side was missing (worn away). The stub and axle were worn away where the trust bearing should have been. It was an expensive excersize for not using a grease gun every 4-6 weeks.

Have a steer axle from a 1929 fiat.It is a reverse elliot design. It had negative spring pads also spring pads were twisted 2 degree. Straightened the spring pads, and lowered the camber inside the king pin.

Re- cambering a steer axle for left hand road crown. In a axle press, outside the spring pads where it should be corrected. This is to AS/NZS 4737:2002 standards.

This is why we need to bend truck axles. All meritor axles come out with 0 degree camber on the left side, resulting in shoulder wear.

A truck came in recently for a wheel alignment. I asked the driver what the problem with the truck was. He told me that his truck was wandering on the road, and his steering was not returning to centre. I had a look under the front of the truck and saw the passenger side king pin had no lower grease cap and the thrust bearing was gone. He apparently greases the truck regularly (not). Both stub and steer axle were throw away.
