It's one thing to see the new 2026 Yamaha R7 on display. It's another thing to throw a leg over it and head out on track.
After spending time with the bike at Sydney Motorsport Park, a few things stood out straight away.
The new ride-by-wire throttle makes the R7 noticeably smoother and more precise, while the up-and-down quickshifter is seamless through the gears.
The bike tips into corners effortlessly and feels incredibly confidence inspiring from the first lap.
What surprised us most, though, was the technology package. For a learner-approved sports bike, the level of rider aids is impressive, with many of the same features found on Yamaha's flagship R9.
And yes, it even has cruise control.
The 2026 R7 is still everything riders love about the current model, but now with a level of refinement and technology we've never seen before in a Yamaha LAMS supersport.
