While the cause of this particular fire is still under investigation, the usual “lithium is to blame here” comments and media presence is always mentioned with caravan/rv/motorhome fires.
It’s important not to lump all “lithium batteries” together. Most incidents come back to poor installs, incorrect chargers or sub-standard wiring, not the battery itself.
Dont get mixed up with incorrect info,
Lithium is everywhere in phones, laptops, power tools, scooters, ebikes, caravans and motorhomes.
But not all lithium batteries are the same and that’s where a lot of confusion starts.
Most consumer devices use lithium-ion or lithium-polymer cells.
Proper off-grid & touring systems that I do are designed around Lithium Iron Phosphate LiFePo4, the “king” of lithium and far more stable and safer chemistry, purpose built for deep cycle, high current and for use over a long time.
Lithium is safe when installed correctly.
At the absolte bar minimum that means:
• The correct battery chemistry
• A quality BMS / built battery
• Correct cable sizing & protection
• Correct recharging systems
• Neat, tidy and safe wiring
