Yesterday my Open Class (R) motorcycle (Honda NC700SA) had a bit of a problem. A weird grating sound emanating from the rear wheel. At first, I thought it was brakes, pads were still ok, so I suspected maybe something stuck between the pads and the rotor, then my learner said it felt like the bike was wobbling. I swapped bikes and sure enough, back end felt loose. I pulled over and left the bike, returning with the trailer later to pick it up.

Found it to be rear wheel bearing. This is what it looked like. Fortunately, I was able to source a new pair from Repco in Balcatta. The last pair that they had in stock.

Pretty painless operation replacing them. Most difficult was getting the wheel lined up with the axel.

I transported the blue Fazer from the bond warehouse to the clients home a few years ago. He called me up last week to transport his two prized possessions, the Fazer and a new MT10 to their new home. Thrilled that he remembered me and kept my number for so long.

Imagine this. You’re riding down the freeway/highway. You may or may not be adhering to speed restrictions. You cross a bridge or flyover. Too late, you realise that someone has stolen the grids in the expansion joints.

Another very happy customer. Customer in Burkinu Faso. I had previously transported the R100 for him. I also moved his Harley for him. I didn’t take a picture because, apparently, having a Harley on a trailer creates a bad image.

The next day, I had someone asking to ship a 250 for him. He insisted that the bike went nowhere without him. Ummm! Ooookkkaaay!

After this schmozzel comes to an end, practice social distancing. Get a bike. Avoid public transport and multiple occupants in a motorcar. Avoid being caught using your mobile phone while driving. Avoid the humdrum of freeway traffic.

In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic and concomitant to requirements set out by the Department of Health and other bodies, it has become necessary to apply a number of health and safety policies to mitigate the risk of infection.

No personal riding gear such as jackets, gloves and helmets will be provided.

“Buffs” will be provided to each learner to be used in lieu of masks.

Social distancing will be applied with a separation of a minimum of 1.5 meters. No physical contact.

Hand sanitiser will be provided to be used before and after each lesson.

All equipment such as intercoms, handlebars and seats will be sanitised before each lesson.

These measures have been implemented for the safety of the instructors and learners.
