🚛 When a concrete agitator breaks down with the brakes locked on, every minute counts.

This brake booster was identifying as an air dryer/water separator… 😂💦

It’s a timely reminder to regularly drain your air tanks and keep the entire air system serviced. Moisture and contamination can quickly cause seized components, brake faults and costly downtime.

We diagnosed the fault, completed the repairs and got this twin steer agitator back on the road and back to pouring concrete. 👌🏽

🔥 1KD HILUX DYNO TUNING 🔥

The Toyota 1KD-FTV is one of our favourite diesel engines to tune and a platform we know exceptionally well.

A healthy, relatively standard 1KD Hilux will commonly produce approximately:

✅ 115–130hp at the wheels standard
✅ 150–170 hp at the wheels after tuning
✅ Approximately 95–140Nm additional torque

They can achieve much higher results with aftermarket accessories.

Results vary depending on engine condition, transmission, tyres and modifications, which is why every Hilux receives its own baseline runs, testing and custom dyno calibration.

Our aim isn’t an aggressive torque spike or a big number for social media. We concentrate on smooth, usable power that improves:

⚰️ Unfortunately, it’s overhaul time for this 1HZ-powered 100 Series LandCruiser.

Once stripped down, the extent of the internal damage became clear:

❌ Melted pistons
❌ Heavily scored cylinder bores
❌ Pre-combustion chamber inserts dislodged from the cylinder head
❌ Significant damage requiring a complete engine overhaul

The Toyota 1HZ has earned its reputation as a simple, dependable and long-lasting diesel engine but even these legendary engines aren’t indestructible.

In an indirect-injection 1HZ, combustion begins inside the pre-combustion chambers in the cylinder head. If these chamber inserts become damaged or experience excessive heat, they can loosen and fall out.

Melted pistons can also indicate excessive combustion temperatures, injector faults, incorrect injection timing, cooling-system problems or a combination of issues.

This is why we don’t simply replace the damaged components and send the vehicle back out. The underlying cause must be identified, or the rebuilt engine could suffer the same fate.

This engine will now require a complete strip-down, inspection and overhaul. The block, crankshaft, connecting rods, cylinder head, pistons and lubrication system will all be carefully inspected and measured. The injectors, fuel system and cooling system will also be thoroughly assessed before the rebuilt engine returns to service. / crate engine.

Warning signs can include:

⚠️ Excessive smoke
⚠️ Increased oil consumption
⚠️ Abnormal knocking
⚠️ Loss of power
⚠️ Overheating
⚠️ Heavy crankcase breathing
⚠️ Difficult starting
⚠️ Increased fuel consumption

This 200 Series LandCruiser came in for the complete RPM treatment:

🔍 VW Passat won’t start — the fault code didn’t tell the whole story!

This Passat arrived not running, with a fuel pressure fault code. Before pointing the finger at the fuel pump, we investigated the mechanical timing.

✅ Crankshaft timing lined up
✅ Camshaft timing lined up
❌ Fuel pump timing out of alignment

Digging deeper, we found a timing chain guide wedged behind the chain. It was taking up the slack, making the chain appear tight despite the fuel pump timing being incorrect.

A tight chain doesn’t necessarily mean the timing is right! This is why checking fault codes is only the beginning. Understanding how the system works, knowing common faults and physically checking components helps uncover what’s actually going on.
