XABC Dash Restoration

This XA console was dipped in the acid treatment I use for all plastic dashes, consoles, kick panels and heater boxes (plastic components only). I’ve been using this process for 17 years.

As you can see, the ashtray area was left untreated to show just how effective the acid is. This process removes 50 years of Armour All and other products that have been used to gloss the plastic, which eventually etch into the surface.

Simply using wax and grease remover doesn’t provide anywhere near the level of preparation needed to achieve a quality restoration. The plastic needs to be taken back to its raw surface, just like taking steel back to bare metal before painting.

Once it’s been fully restored, you’ll be able to see the full factory grain, and you’ll know the finish is built to last without the risk of paint reactions or adhesion problems down the track

XA GT complete refurbishment for customer. Still have steering column, glove box and console to do.
Comes with 18 months warranty.

finished customers XC dash and frame. Anyone who has taken an XC dash out will know just how much these things crack. undoing a screw will crack it, turning it upside down will crack it, breathing near it will crack it, they are terrible. i worked on stabilising it by welding and reinforcing all cracks. then it went into the acid bath to remove everything except plastics and steel. plastic primed it then paint. got middle vents rechromed and the rest of the silver repainted. removed all vinyl as it was creased in some places, little bit of panel beating then painted. all steel brackets powder coated then reattached with new fittings.
i also repaired his consol which was a major effort given it had to be split.
steering column was refurbished as well

i’m still on the factory aircon which should be finished in a couple more weeks.

xc console.
acid bath
removed bottom and welded up holes in the inner skin and other cracks.
welded bottom piece back in.
restored aluminium insert removing vinyl wrap and applying special coat to make it look as factory.
rechromed plastic surround.
ashtray cad plated and other parts painted.
new lid.
