🔌⛽ What Actually IS MG SUPER HYBRID?
You’ve probably heard Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and EV thrown around a lot lately.
But what exactly is MG SUPER HYBRID - and what does it actually mean when you’re behind the wheel?
The easiest way to explain it is this:
SUPER HYBRID gives you the everyday benefits of electric driving, with a petrol engine there when you need it.
In the MG HS SUPER HYBRID, a 24.7kWh battery works alongside a 154kW / 340Nm electric motor and petrol engine. The system intelligently manages where the power comes from, prioritising electric driving while bringing the petrol engine into the equation when required.
⚡ So… do you plug it in?
Yes!
Unlike MG’s HYBRID+ system, SUPER HYBRID can be plugged in and charged. Start your day with a charged battery and you can take advantage of up to 135km NEDC electric driving range before needing to rely more heavily on the petrol engine.
And it doesn’t only recover energy from the plug - regenerative braking can also put energy back into the battery while you drive.
⛽ But what happens on a long trip?
This is where SUPER HYBRID starts to make a lot of sense for Australian driving.
Once you're heading further afield, you've still got the petrol engine working alongside the hybrid system.
With a full charge and fuel tank, MG quotes a combined driving range of over 1,000km^ and official combined fuel consumption of 0.7L/100km**.
So think:
🏠 Daily commute? Make use of EV driving.
🛒 Running around Gympie? Quiet, responsive electric performance can do plenty of the work.
🏖️ Weekend away? You've still got petrol power and long-distance flexibility.

Electric motors deliver their torque immediately, which means SUPER HYBRID can feel smooth and responsive when you accelerate.
You can also select ECO, Normal or Sport Hybrid Drive Modes depending on how you want the vehicle to respond. MG says the SUPER HYBRID system has also been tuned with Australian roads in mind.
🤔 SUPER HYBRID vs HYBRID+ - what's the difference?
This is probably the question we’ll get asked most.
MG HYBRID+ recharges as you drive and doesn't need to be plugged in.
MG SUPER HYBRID has a much larger battery that you can plug in and charge, giving you considerably more dedicated electric driving capability while retaining a petrol engine for longer journeys.
