BVR Slotcar Racing

BVR Slotcar Racing BVR is temporarily closed for racing, we're relocating from Bonogin to Bahrs Scrub. Keep checking in as we post progress & racing at other tracks.

It will be bigger & better than ever once relocated, catering for 1:32, 1:24 scale, flexi & Aussie Retro. Most adults can remember racing slot cars as kids and all the fun of imagining you're racing the real thing. Bonogin Valley Raceway (BVR) is a privately run, not for profit, facility with 2 great tracks available for use. No club exists, just a group of enthusiasts racing scale cars in both 1:

32 & 1:24 scales. Located in the Gold Coast suburb of Bonogin it's a leisurely drive 15 minutes from both M1 exits 79 and 82. Mark Stockwell, the owner and founder of BVR, comes from a 1:1 motor racing background and is still actively involved in the officiating of motorsport events to an international level. As a young child Mark was introduced to slot car racing by his father, as most kids were back then. Mark's goal is to share both his passions of motorsport and slot car racing with his ever growing group of friends. BVR does not get run as a club but has organised race meetings fortnightly. Each scale, 1:24 & 1:32, are run twice per month with 1:32 being 1st and 3rd Saturday afternoons and 1:24 rotates with 2 other tracks in SEQ but resulting in 2 Wednesday evenings per month. Whereas BVR can help you source cars it does not hold a large range but does try to keep most consumable parts in stock. The track runs on a donation basis which helps to maintain the facility for all to use. If you would like to rekindle the the slot car passion from your youth or get involved for the first time feel free to message Mark at BVR for details...

Slowly but surely, things are happing to get the new facility built. Earthworks started Thursday. The 2 old stumps shown were well over 2t and unfortunately took out power and the comms line to the house. Currently without power but hopefully 🤞🏻🤞🏻we’ll be back on by Wednesday.

We’re still a way off but getting the rough cuts in place ready for “all systems go” once the formal approval comes through.

Part of order No1 for the 1:24 Scaleauto Hypercars has arrived. These cars will form a regular class on our 1:24 scale nights at the new facility at Bahrs Scrub. They have fantastic detail and finish and will be run essentially straight out of the box. Only items that will be open are gearing, braids, guide shoe, axles (3mm only) and bearings. These are to accommodate preference of brand.
Wheels/tyres 21x13mm rim rear with tyres 25mm diameter minimum 13mm width maximum. Front, 21x7mm rim and 25x7mm tyres.
Ground clearance 1mm minimum.
A lightweight interior comes in the kit, this can replace the fitted plastic interior but the hard plastic windows/windshield must remain.

The idea is to make the class even and affordable to a new person starting.

The final class was a class that has proven to be the favourite among the guys who race at BVR, our LMP class. I managed to get my first podium for the night with a win, averaging just better than 6sec per lap for the 12 minute race distance. Jan was hot on my heels and Grant close behind in 3rd.

A big thanks to all who have supported BVR in Bonogin for the past 10.5 years. It’s been a privilege to host such good racing and have so many talented racers among our group. We’ll now be charging full steam ahead to get the new facility built so we can start the next chapter on the BVR track.

Our second class for the night was the Plafit Historics. Just .23 of a lap (1.6 seconds) separated Ash in first place from Nick. Jan rounded out the top 3, pretty good for someone who had just flown back from overseas and suffering from Jet lag. Such nice cars these, not overly expensive and quick.

A great field of 15 drivers for our last night of racing in Bonogin. Scaleauto GT was our first class with Nick getting a lap record and just missing bettering the most laps for 12 minutes by 3 meters. 2nd to 4th was covered by about 3.5 seconds with Ash finishing 2nd and Jan 3rd.

Now on track are our Historics.

This Wednesday night sees the end of 1 chapter at BVR. After 10 and a half years, this will be our last race night in Bonogin. Our classes will be Scaleauto GT, Plafit Historic and LMP. The track will be open from 3pm Qld with racing to start as close after 5pm Qld as possible. 🏎️🏁

This Saturday we will be dismantling the track and putting it into storage until the new facility at Bahrs Scrub is completed. Hopefully this won’t take too long but we still need a registered builder to put their hand up so we can finalise and lodge the plans with council.

Today we celebrated the life, and farewelled, our good friend Garry Johnson. We had a fantastic turnout to share the memories and turn some laps with cars designed and built by Garry about 15 years ago.

Rest in peace Garry! You will be sorely missed by so many!

Tonight we had night 2 of our last 4 race meetings at BVR before packing up for the last time in Bonogin. Whilst lower on numbers, the quality was high and racing was fast and furious as usual. Nick had a great run, topping the podium on all 3 races. Ash had 3 well earned podiums with 2 seconds and a third. Ken drove an outstanding LMP race to finish 2nd, falling .17 of a lap short of the goal of averaging better than 6 seconds per lap for the entire race distance. Glynn reached a milestone tonight breaking into the 5. second laps for LMP for the first time. Fantastic effort!!! I managed 2 podiums, finishing 3rd in both Scaleauto and Slotworx Porsche.

Next week will be our penultimate event at Bonogin, where we will race Scaleauto GT, GroupC and GT3.
