✅ Slow down smoothly (no sudden braking)
✅ Increase your following distance
✅ Headlights on when visibility drops

Myth-busting time, Gold Coast

Myth: You have to be confident before you start driving lessons.

Truth: Confidence comes from small wins, done safely, with a calm instructor beside you.

Queensland e-scooter and e-bike laws have changed, and it is worth a quick check if you ride or you have a teenager who rides.

From 31 August 2026 in Queensland:
Riders must be at least 16 and hold a licence, at minimum a learner licence.
Riders aged 12 to 17 may ride only under close parent or caregiver supervision if they do not meet the licence requirement.
Parents can be fined if children under 16 ride illegally.

A few other key rules that impact everyone on the road:
Maximum 12 km/h on footpaths and when passing pedestrians on shared paths.
E-scooters can ride on roads signed up to 60 km/h, but riders must not exceed 25 km/h.
Drivers must leave at least 1 metre when passing riders.
Drink riding laws apply, the legal limit is 0.05 BAC and police can conduct roadside breath tests.
Illegal high powered devices can be seized, and many offences now attract fines of more than $500.

From 28 February 2027, further rules will apply, including a 25 km/h speed limit for e-scooters and new e-bike safety and labelling requirements.

Did you know these Queensland driving rules? 🚗

Here's a quick refresher on some key QLD road rules that keep everyone safe:

🚦 Speed limits are mandatory, not suggestions. Stick to the posted limit for your area.
🚗 Seatbelts are non-negotiable for all passengers, front and back.
📱 Mobile phones must be hands-free while driving. No exceptions.
🚴 Cyclists need 1 metre clearance in 60km/h zones, 1.5 metres in higher speed areas.
👶 Child restraints are required until age 7 or 135cm tall, whichever comes first.
🍺 Zero tolerance for P-platers and learners. Fully licensed drivers: 0.05% BAC limit.
