One log file can tell you more than a dyno sheet ever will.

Peak power is only one part of a successful calibration.

Every road test generates a huge amount of data, allowing us to evaluate how the engine, DSG transmission, torque model, boost control and fuel system are working together.

The objective isn’t simply to make more power.

It’s to understand how the complete package behaves under real-world conditions and refine the calibration accordingly.

The dyno starts the process.

The data finishes it.

2018 Golf R

The goal for this vehicle was to transition from 98 octane to E85 and take advantage of the additional performance potential available from the combination.

Initial testing of the vehicle in its existing configuration identified limitations that would need to be addressed before the calibration could be developed safely and consistently on ethanol fuel.

To support the new package, the vehicle was upgraded with one of our complete MQB return fuel systems before being recalibrated for E85. The DSG calibration was also revised to suit the new operating conditions and power level.

The result was 386kW at the hubs and 574Nm on E85.

While the final number is impressive, the focus of the project was ensuring the fuel system, engine calibration and DSG calibration all worked together as a complete package.

Reliable performance comes from understanding the limitations of the vehicle and developing solutions that address the entire system, not just a single component.

As power levels increase, the fuel system needs to evolve with the rest of the package.

One of the areas we’ve spent considerable time developing on the MQB platform is fuel system integration.

The objective isn’t simply to fit larger components or increase fuel flow.

Considerations such as pressure stability, pulsation control, component integration and overall system reliability all play a role in the final result.

Every component is selected as part of a complete package, with the same focus applied to calibration, drivability and long-term reliability.

Reliable performance comes from understanding how the entire system works together.

Every calibration starts long before the final dyno graph.

The dyno gives us a controlled environment to develop the calibration, but that’s only part of the process.

Once we’re happy with the results on the dyno, every MQB package is validated on the road to ensure the car behaves exactly as it should in real-world conditions.

Throttle response, boost control, drivability, gear changes and overall vehicle behaviour are all assessed before the job is considered complete.

Anyone can chase a power figure.

Our focus is delivering a package that’s fast, predictable and enjoyable to drive every day.

MQB development has become a major focus at Ramsdell Racing.

Over the past 18 months we've invested heavily into understanding the MQB platform.

Not just making horsepower, but understanding how all of the systems work together.
