Not all faults require replacing parts—sometimes the real issue is hidden beneath the surface.

This Mercedes Sprinter came into Siv’s Autos with ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. Our diagnostics confirmed a fault with the RH rear wheel speed sensor circuit, and testing showed the sensor wasn’t producing a signal.

After further investigation, we found the real culprit: a section of the wiring harness had rubbed through between the vehicle body and the water tank due to insufficient clearance.

We repaired the damaged wiring and rerouted the harness to eliminate the rubbing point, ensuring a long-term solution rather than just a temporary fix.

🚗 DPF Warning Light? Don’t Rush to Replace It.

Modern diesel vehicles are fitted with complex emission control systems such as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR/AdBlue) systems. While these technologies help reduce emissions, they can also be some of the most misunderstood and misdiagnosed systems on modern vehicles.

Too often, vehicles are condemned for expensive DPF replacement when the filter itself is simply a victim of an underlying fault.

At Siv’s Autos, we take a diagnostic-first approach. Rather than replacing parts based on fault codes alone, we identify and rectify the root cause of the issue. This approach has allowed us to achieve a high success rate repairing DPF-related concerns without unnecessary filter replacement.

This Volvo recently arrived at our workshop with severe DPF restriction. Through diagnosis, we discovered the original fault was an intake leak causing a significant mixture concern. The engine was unable to operate efficiently, resulting in excessive soot production which rapidly loaded the DPF.

The restriction became so severe that exhaust back pressure increased to the point of damaging the DPF pressure sensor.

Our repair process included:

✅ Diagnosing and repairing the intake leak.

✅ Replacing the damaged pressure sensor.

✅ Confirming DPF restriction levels through testing.

✅ Performing a controlled DPF flush and regeneration procedure.

✅ Verifying successful operation and emissions system performance.

The result? A repaired emissions system and a vehicle back on the road without the need for costly DPF replacement 😁.

Western Australia Transport regulations now require electric, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles built or modified on or after 1 January 2019 to display warning labels on BOTH the front and rear licence plates.

🔹 Vehicles built before 2019 are strongly encouraged to also apply the labels

🔹 A grace period applies until 1 January 2027

These labels are important for emergency services identification and compliance with WA regulations.

2025 Year in Review 💫

As we wrap up 2025, I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported Siv’s Autos throughout a year that has tested us, taught us, and strengthened our direction🙌🏻🔧.

This year brought rising operating costs and high cost of living to all of us 🫠 and as a lot of Geraldton business will say - Staffing Challenges! Due to multiple circumstances we went from a 4-man workshop in December 2024 to a 1-man show by May 2025. While this created delays and high levels of pressure on our workflow, I’m grateful for the patience and understanding many of you showed during that time🙏🏻.

Despite the hurdles🚧, our commitment to delivering quality repairs 🔧 and genuine customer service has never wavered ✅. We acknowledge there were moments we couldn’t meet expectations, and we apologise for the inconvenience this caused. Every challenge has driven us to refine our systems, lift our standards, and build a stronger, more capable workshop for the year ahead.

Three years ago, Siv’s Autos was created to bring honest service, high-quality workmanship, and specialisation in European vehicles and diagnostics to the Mid-West.
