Brake pads. They are all the same aren’t they?

Well actually no they aren’t. Some have a small metal strip that you can see at the end of the cable tie. That’s a pad wear indicator. Before the brake pad is totally worn out it makes contact with the disc rotor & makes a squealing sound. A bit like scratching a blackboard.

The sound is impossible to ignore. If you hear it you should contact your mechanic.

Brake pads come in different “compounds”. So you get anything from very cheap don’t work at all well ones to ones that can be used for racing. And everything in between.

The brake rotors or discs as they are sometimes called also come in many varieties. You can get basic general ones right through to drilled ones or slotted ones or even drilled & slotted ones.

We can help guide you as to what type of pad/rotor combination best suits your driving needs.

One thing we do ask & that goes for when we service your car too, please make sure the low fuel indicator light isn’t on. We always road test cars after we have worked on them & it’s really difficult if we don’t know if it’s likely to run out of fuel.

So you’ve just bought a new car & of course you have to take it back to the dealer for servicing or you will lose your warranty.

Wrong.

New car servicing can be carried out by any qualified mechanic using genuine parts & that will preserve your warranty.

We are talking about “factory” warranty. In some cases your dealer may offer an extension to the factory warranty in the form of a dealer warranty. That may mean you can for example double your warranty period.

So a five year factory warranty may be extended a further period of time as a dealer warranty. This can mean the dealer will insist that all servicing must be done by the dealer to be eligible for the extension.

We have been servicing people’s new cars since our beginning in 1988. When we service your new car it’s important to fill in the book so we ask that you leave it on the seat. Keeping your receipts is also recommended as a dealer will often ask to see them if you have a warranty issue.

From humble beginnings as small workshop across the road in 1988, to then moving across the road as MD Foster Fyans Mechanical, to Branden taking over and soon after renaming the business to Foster Fyans Automotive in recent years, this business has always been about family, hard work, and looking after our community.

Through the years, Daryl carried the legacy forward, and today Branden proudly leads the business, continuing to grow and modernise it while staying true to the values it was built on.

We are incredibly grateful to all of our loyal customers over the years, customers who have become friends and feel like family, and to the community around us for supporting us through the generations. It means a lot to our small family business.
