What a disappointing end to what until the rain came was a great weekend for us and many of our customers and friends.
After a couple of years of development, Ace's bike jumped to the head of the pack for Pro Street styled bikes in the country. After a wild first round pass that saw a 7.34 second pb by .14 of a second Blaze calmed the bike down and to all of our surprise it belted out a 7.174 at 194.13 mph to go to the top of the pro street list.
After looking at the data and video footage the bike was calmed some more in an attempt to keep the front wheel on the ground and a few other tweaks were made to try and overcome an issue we were struggling with, which was double killing the engine on gear shifts. We went out expecting to run a hair slower but with the aim of being able to find a repeatable set up. Well were we wrong! The changes we made stopped the double kill and calmed the wheel rising some more and with a nearing flawless ride job from Ace 7.104 at 196.82 appeared on the boards! Proving the old say smooth is fast.
That pass cemented his position at the head of the no bar pack and was .02 under the national AA/CBI record and a massive 14 mph over the speed record. And put him in number 2 qualifying position. Which meant if all went to plan we would have to race our southern mates Terry Jackson riding Mick Donohue's nasty little DD/CBI Suzuki in the final as they had qualified number 1 with a .03 sub record pass in Q2 and an even quicker to half track shut down pass in Q3. Needless to say if that race eventuated records would have fallen. But it wasn't to be.
So a massive congratulations to those boys and everyone else who PB'd or made the effort to attend what was 3 great days of qualifying and racing.
