🔧 Injector Testing | 1KD N70 Hilux

Testing a set of common rail diesel injectors sent in by our mates at GMG Automotive Services in Box Hill — and the results speak for themselves!

Their customer came in complaining of rattle and smoke, so they sent the injectors our way for testing.

📊 Results: 3 out of 4 injectors FAILED testing.

Work carried out included:

✔️ Replacement of injectors with genuine Denso injectors
✔️ Replacement of high pressure fuel lines
✔️ Replacement of suction control valve
✔️ Rocker cover replacement
✔️ Intake manifold & EGR system removal and carbon decontamination

Excessive carbon build-up through the intake and EGR system is common on the 1KD platform and can restrict airflow, affect combustion efficiency and contribute to drivability concerns over time.

Even well maintained 4WDs develop wear over time, it’s just part of the fun right? 😬

Wheel bearings, suspension, steering and driveline components can all slowly wear, even when you’re staying on top of your servicing. The key is picking up the small changes early such as slight vibrations, noises, or changes in handling.

Catching those early doesn’t just keep your vehicle reliable, it helps avoid bigger repairs and keeps everything performing the way it should.

Staying proactive with checks and maintenance is what keeps a good setup working properly, especially if you rely on it for trips or towing.

If something feels even slightly off, it’s always worth looking into it sooner rather than later 👌🏻

N70 Hilux in with driveability concerns.

Loaded onto the dyno for some diagnostic testing and fault replication.
Found consistent overboost caused by a sticking VNT mechanism in the turbo.

Replaced turbo and carried out a major service to bring everything back to baseline.

Vehicle was already fitted with a heavy-duty clutch, so we were able to go straight into tuning.

Final results:
126kW / 420nm at the wheels.

200 Series LandCruiser in for some well-earned TLC and prep for a big trip up north.

• Full intake & EGR strip, clean and reseal with new genuine gaskets
• Genuine starter motor replacement
• Upgraded 180A alternator
• Replaced all coolant & fuel hoses in the valley (common failure point)
• New water pump, radiator & thermostat
• Welded tank intercooler upgrade

This one’s now set up for reliability where it counts — especially for remote touring. Preventative work like this can save a lot of headaches when you’re a long way from home!
