DOES YOUR ENGINE ACTUALLY NEED AN ENGINE FLUSH?

The answer is — not always.

At Exeter Automotive, we're not interested in adding products to every service simply because we can.

If your vehicle has been regularly serviced with the correct oil and at the correct intervals, an engine flush may provide little benefit and we won't recommend one unnecessarily.

But when servicing has been stretched well beyond its recommended interval, it's a different story.

Old oil has broken down and significant sludge has started accumulating inside the engine.

In situations like this, an engine flush may be recommended to help remove deposits and contamination before fresh oil and a new filter are fitted.

🔧 Our approach is simple:

Overdue service, unknown as service history or signs of contamination? We'll assess it and recommend a flush, if we believe it will genuinely benefit the engine.

We'd rather explain why we're recommending something than simply add it to your bill.

⚙️ AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION… OR IS IT? 👀

What you're looking at is a 7-speed dry-clutch DSG with the mechatronics unit removed.

Here’s the interesting part — underneath all the electronics, it's essentially a manual gearbox that changes gears for you!

Instead of your foot operating the clutch and your hand selecting gears, the mechatronics unit does it all automatically.
Replacing one isn't just a case of bolting a new unit in.

It requires specialised tools, diagnostic equipment and software, followed by the correct setup and adaptations so the gearbox knows how to operate its clutches and select gears correctly.

It's a great example of how much the automotive industry has changed — today, being a mechanic involves computers and software just as much as spanners and sockets.

And it's technology we can diagnose and repair right here at Exeter Automotive.

A truly awful and unfortunate event which has really shocked our local community.

Amarok V6 coolant shut off valve repair (Coolant Leak)

Does your Amarok use coolant?
Can't seem to see where it's coming from?

It's probably the coolant shut off valve (Connected to the swollen coolant hose in photos). Used to regulate coolant to the EGR cooler and heater core. Pressure is applied to the cooling system and a borescope is used to inspect for leaks in the engine valley.

While everything is apart, it's always recommended to replace the engine oiler cooler gasket, coolant fitting on RHS, replace coolant hose tc.
