Own a Hyundai or Kia with notchy feeling steering and a clunk when you turn the wheel? In the late 2000s, Hyundai and Kia started using an electric power steering system that uses an electric motor to provide power assistance instead of hydraulic fluid. The system is fairly generic across their vehicle range, and they all seem to contain this little black coupling between the motor and the steering column. Allegedly, the early versions of this coupling were made from the wrong material and would degrade badly if it came into contact with grease from the EPS. Well... it's nearly the end of 2025 and we're still replacing these couplings. This one had nothing left but a gummy, sticky mess that needed to be thoroughly cleaned out before replacing the coupling. No more knocking and notchy steering!

Proud of our mechanic apprentice Alex who has signed up as the 100th dual trade apprentice with the MTA. Cars are becoming more advanced year on year with complex electrical systems, hybridisation and electrification. Having a solid auto electrical understanding has never been more important in order to be a successful technician for now and in the future.

We’ve hit 100 dual trade apprentices! 🎉

MTA Training and Employment is proud to announce that more than 100 apprentices are now enrolled in our nation-leading dual trade program across South Australia, developed in partnership with the South Australian Skills Commission. 🔧⚡

This program is shaping the future of automotive skills, giving apprentices two trade qualifications in just five years and preparing them for a high-tech future, including more hybrid and electric vehicle technology.

Today marks 30 years of Lesley! Les is arguably the backbone of this business. For 30 years, she has been the face behind the counter, the voice on the phone, the handler of all things administrative and surrogate work- mum to the boys here. Cheers, Lesley! Another 30 to go? 🤣

Check out this job we've just finished up for our mates over at Pirtek. Wired up this new Ford Ranger field service vehicle to get it work site ready with 300amp circuit breakers for the hydraulic crimper, bench saw, wired up additional lighting for the canopy, UHF radio, reverse squawker... the list goes on. It's going to be an awesome work rig 👌🏻
