How Australia became China’s secret new-car weapon: GWM's local ride and handling program could affect everything from 2026 Haval H6 to GWM Cannon Alpha | CarsGuide

Australia’s obsession with ride and handling is proving a secret weapon for one Chinese car maker, with Australian preferences and know-how set to be exported to the world.

Let's talk torque.

620Nm. The new GWM 3.0L turbo-diesel is landing in the Cannon Alpha and Tank 500 this August — and the numbers do the talking: 170kW, 3,500kg braked towing, and 7.1L/100km fuel economy that's better than the engine it replaces.

Australia is the first market in the world to get this engine. Built and tested here, for the towing, touring and work conditions we deal with around here.

If you're weighing this up against what's currently in your driveway or your fleet, we're happy to talk through it — no pressure, just a real conversation about what fits.
