Some of the most important lessons a mother teaches happen without a single word.
The way she puts her hand on your back when you cross a carpark. The way she checks the back seat is empty before she locks the doors. The way she shows you, without ever calling it a lesson, that the things we use every day deserve to be looked after.

Mothers have always taught this way. Not with grand statements, but with steady hands and small examples that turn into the way you live the rest of your life. How to be on time. How to be kind to the person at the counter. How to take care of the things that take care of you, and the people who count on you to do the same.

The little ones watch closely. They notice everything. The careful way she does the small jobs. The patience she has for things that take a moment longer than expected. The way she does it all without making it about herself.

To every mother teaching the next generation what care looks like, in carparks and kitchens and back seats and front rooms, thank you.

To every person walking at Riley Oval this morning - what you are doing matters more than you know.

You are walking for the people beside you, for the people who could not be there, and to create a future for the people who will never have to face what so many families already have.

When we set our goal for this year's Walk for Women's Cancers we hoped we would get there. What we did not expect was to finish $10,000 above it - and that is entirely because of the people around us.

Every donation, every registration, every person who showed up and said yes to this cause has been part of something far greater than any one of us.

The Walk for Women's Cancers has now raised over $1.4 million for women's cancers research. That number belongs to Perth. It belongs to every family who has been touched by this disease and decided to do something about it.

New Town Toyota has been proud naming sponsor of this walk for five consecutive years. In that time we have watched this community grow, give, and show up in ways that remind us why we do this. And tomorrow we do it again.

One more sleep. We will see you at Riley Oval.
