Tasmanian shipbuilder Incat has landed a "landmark contract" to build two massive electric ferries for Denmark, a project the company says marks a turning point for the global maritime industry.

The 129-metre vessels will be powered by 45,000 kWh battery systems and will run on one of Europe’s busiest ferry routes between Jutland and Zealand.

Danish operator Molslinjen is expected to receive the first ferry in late 2027. Each ship will carry up to 1,483 passengers and 500 cars, cruising at speeds over 40 knots.

"They are part of a new class of high-speed, low-emission ships that are redefining what's possible at sea," Incat Chairman Robert Clifford said.

The contract arrives as Incat ramps up plans to double its workforce and production capacity at its Prince of Wales Bay shipyard over the next three years, with construction on the Danish ferries to begin in the coming months.

I just want to let everyone know that I am retiring next month (June).
It’s been a fun time, 32 years to be exact in my own business.
In all, I have been specialising in Volkswagens for 55 years. While I am still heathy and switched on, I am going to live the next stage of my life.
I have met some wonderful people over the decades and I will miss them all.
Thank you to everyone for allowing me to repair and service your precious cars. It’s been my pleasure. So many good memories, so many beaut cars, and Kombis. 😀❤️
I will have a mammoth job of clearing out the workshop.
There is a good possibility that Andrew Robinson Automotive will continue, being operated by a new person.
